What are the latest precautions for planting Asarum?
Asarum is also called Chinese wild ginger (Asarum sieboldii). It is a perennial herbaceous plant of the genus Asarum in the class Magnoliopsida. It has effects such as dispelling wind, dispersing cold, and opening the orifices, and in medicine it is often used to treat diseases such as headache, sinusitis, toothache, and rheumatic paralysis. Asarum planting in China is mainly distributed in the Northeast region, among which Jilin and Liaoning are the main producing areas of Asarum. So today the editor wants to share with everyone the main points of Asarum planting. Let's take a look.
1. Soil selection
Wild Asarum generally grows mostly under forests, because the soil under general forests contains rich humus and is suitable for Asarum growth, so when planting we can also choose to plant under forests. If we choose to plant in open fields, we need to choose sandy loam with deep soil layers, rich humus content, loose soil texture, sufficient fertilizer, and convenient drainage and irrigation. In particular, clayey soil and barren soil areas cannot be used for planting, otherwise diseases and pests will occur frequently, increasing the difficulty of planting, while the yield will not be high and the quality will be poor.
2. Planting time
The planting time of Asarum is related to its planting method. If fresh seeds are used for sowing, we usually start sowing in early July, and the sowing time cannot be later than early August, because the longer the seeds are stored, the lower their germination rate. If freshly harvested seeds are sown, the germination rate is as high as over 96 percent, but if they are left for more than 60 days, then the germination rate of the seeds is only 2 percent, so they should be sown as early as possible. If division propagation and rhizome propagation are used, generally it is enough to plant in summer, with no excessive requirements.
3. Density management
Planting density has a great impact on the yield and quality of Asarum. At the same time, in later field operations, a reasonable planting density also makes it convenient for growers to carry out field management work, which can also reduce labor difficulty. Regardless of which planting method is used, the row spacing is generally 15 cm and the plant spacing is about 10 cm. Of course, we also need to reasonably regulate the planting density of Asarum according to the fertility level of the planting site, so as to improve the utilization rate of land resources as much as possible.
4. Water and fertilizer management
Water and fertilizer management is the key to high yield and high quality of Asarum. During the growth period of Asarum, in addition to base fertilizer, topdressing is needed twice each year. The topdressing is in May and September each year, mainly with ammonium sulfate applied in furrows between rows. Of course, we can also mix nearby pig manure with superphosphate and then apply it as fertilizer, and it is said that the effect is also excellent. Also, during the planting process, we can cover the ground with a layer of decomposed fallen leaves, which can both provide nutrients and have the effect of preserving fertilizer and water. Finally, in the dry season each year, water reasonably to maintain soil moisture and promote the growth of Asarum, and also remember to drain water in the rainy season.
In fact, there are still many places we need to pay attention to in Asarum planting, such as precautions for intertillage and weeding, adjustment of light intensity, overwintering protection measures, and pest and disease control measures, etc. If everyone is interested, you can continue to follow us.
