What are the latest points to note when planting Chinese holly?
Chinese holly is also called cat's thorn and tiger thorn. It is an excellent ornamental fruit tree, also known as the Christmas tree. In China, Chinese holly is mainly distributed in Jiangsu, Shanghai, Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou and other places. How much do you know about Chinese holly? Do you know what needs to be noted when planting Chinese holly? The editor has listed the following points to note for your reference.
1. Soil
Chinese holly has certain requirements for the soil of the planting site. Although it can basically be planted in most soils, saline-alkali land is not suitable for planting Chinese holly. Next, the planting site for Chinese holly is best with fertile, acidic soil, and the soil should have good permeability and good drainage; otherwise, the planted Chinese holly will also show poor growth and development.
2. Temperature
Chinese holly is a warmth-loving plant and is suitable for planting in areas where the climate is relatively warm throughout the year. The most suitable temperature for the growth of Chinese holly is 15 to 20 degrees, and it can also grow between 25 and 35 degrees, but when the temperature exceeds 35 degrees, it will gradually stop growing. Next, Chinese holly also has a short-term low-temperature tolerance and can survive for a period in an environment of around minus 5 degrees, but it is best to carry out heat preservation treatment; otherwise, it will be frozen to death after being in such an environment for a long time.
3. Humidity
Chinese holly has a certain drought tolerance and likes moisture, but it is not tolerant of waterlogging and is afraid of water accumulation. When watering, we should grasp one principle: do not water if it is not dry, and when watering, water thoroughly. That is to say, be sure to wait until the soil is dry before watering, and water thoroughly at one time; there is no need to water frequently. The soil of the planting site should not be too dry or too wet. Control moisture reasonably to avoid water accumulation in the field.
4. Nutrients
Nutrient supply is mainly to promote plant growth. We need to fertilize according to the different growth stages of Chinese holly. During the growth period of Chinese holly, fertilizer needs to be applied once a month, mainly nitrogen fertilizer. Then there are the flowering period and fruiting period of Chinese holly. In these two stages, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be the main focus. When fertilizing, note that nitrogen fertilizer cannot be applied in a one-sided way; otherwise, it will reduce the economic value of Chinese holly.
5. Pruning
Chinese holly has strong growth ability, so it needs to be pruned frequently. Do not be reluctant to prune it. During the seedling growth period, in order to promote the tree shape of the Chinese holly plant, we need to carry out pinching treatment, which can promote the growth of branches. After Chinese holly blooms and bears fruit, we only need to reasonably adjust the density between the branches of the crown, thin out overly dense branches and diseased and pest-damaged branches, and prune some old branches, dead branches and messy branches, so as to maintain a good crown and tree shape, keep good permeability, and avoid the plant being too dense and causing diseases.
