Gastrodia is a medicinal herb, and the main part used for medicine is its rhizome. Gastrodia holds a fairly high position among Chinese medicinal herbs and has strong medicinal effects; it can be used to treat problems such as high blood pressure and limb numbness. However, growing Gastrodia is rather troublesome, because the annual yield is never very high. So how exactly do you grow Gastrodia? Below, the editor brings you the planting techniques for Gastrodia. Let's take a look!

1. Material Preparation

Gastrodia is a fungal medicinal herb, so when planting it we must first prepare wood. The wood specifications should be controlled to a diameter of 5-15 cm and a length of about 55 cm, and the number of wood pieces should be controlled according to the planting quantity. Then cut 4-5 slanted notches in each piece of wood. Next, prepare a certain amount of fine branches, fallen leaves and pine needles. Before planting, soak the fallen leaves and pine needles in water to make them soft. Then choose soil that has never been planted with crops; if it has been planted, it should be deep-ploughed to about 35 cm. Then prepare Armillaria, divide it into individual pieces ready for planting, and finally select good Gastrodia seeds.

2. Choosing the Site and Making Beds

The planting plot for Gastrodia should be chosen at an altitude of about 500-2500 m. If the terrain is low, then it is best to use greenhouse cultivation and do a good job of shading. Then plan the planting area inside the greenhouse and prepare the beds well, with each bed controlled to a specification of about 85*25 cm in width and height, ensuring Gastrodia has sufficient growing space. If cultivating on open hillside land, then you need to dig pits in the ground about 12 cm deep and 85 cm wide, to make later operations and management easier. Then leave a certain spacing between the beds, dig drainage ditches well, and make walkways for people.

3. Sowing at the Right Time

First spread about 6 cm of fallen leaves and pine needles at the bottom of the bed surface, then arrange the wood pieces in place, spaced about 3 cm apart, with the slanted notches facing up. Then put sandy soil in, level with the wood. Water thoroughly, then scatter a layer of leaves on the sandy soil to cover the wood, and then sow. Be careful to control the sowing density well, then place a piece of wood at a distance of about 45 cm, scatter a layer of pine needles on top, level with the wood surface, and keep it airy. Then cover with fine branches and cover the bed pit. After sowing, water once, then scatter some sandy soil appropriately to improve the soil's heat preservation and moisture retention capacity.

4. Key Management Points

Gastrodia cultivated in the open field relies mainly on natural temperature, and the optimal temperature should be about 15 degrees below the soil surface. Gastrodia has rather poor tolerance to low temperatures, so in winter we should pay attention to covering a layer of straw and then mulching with film, and then covering with branches and grass, to improve heat preservation. When the temperature gradually rises back to about 10 degrees in spring, uncover the plastic film to promote water absorption. If there is a long period of drought, then you must do the watering work in time. And if there is heavy rain, then cover with film in time to prevent waterlogging, and drain water through the drainage ditches.

It has certain requirements for planting technique, so everyone should not plant blindly! That is all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only.
