What are the latest characteristics of Chinese roses? Explained in one article
The Chinese rose is an evergreen or semi-evergreen shrub, 1-2 m tall. Stems erect; branchlets spreading, green, hairless, with curved prickles or without prickles. Pinnately compound leaves with 3-5 leaflets, rarely 7, 10-15 cm long including the petiole; leaflets broadly ovate to ovate-elliptic, 2.5-6 cm long, 1.5-3 cm wide, apex acute or acuminate, base rounded or broadly cuneate, margins with sharp fine serrations, surface bright green, hairless on both sides; terminal leaflet with a long petiolule, lateral leaflet petiolules shorter, petiole and rachis with sparse glandular hairs and fine prickles; stipules with ciliate glandular hairs or pinnate lobes along the margins, hairless on both sides, base fused with the petiole.
The Chinese rose flowers in clusters of several or singly, about 5 cm in diameter; pedicels 3-5 cm long, green, often with glandular hairs; receptacle nearly spherical, sepal lobes triangular-ovate, apex caudate-acuminate, entire or pinnately lobed, hairless outside, short-tomentose inside and along the margins; petals double, dark red, pink, rarely white; stamens numerous; styles free, ovary pubescent. Rose hips spherical, yellow-red, 1.5-2 cm in diameter, sepal lobes persistent. In the north, April to October; in the south, March to November.
The Chinese rose stem is brownish with a green tinge, with hooked prickles or without prickles, but there are also Chinese roses with almost no prickles. Branchlets green, leaves dark green, leaves alternate, odd-pinnately compound; leaflets generally 3-5, broadly ovate (elliptic) or ovate-oblong, 2.5-6 cm long, apex acuminate, with sharp teeth, leaf margins serrate, hairless and smooth on both sides; stipules fused with the petiole, entire or with glandular teeth, apex separated into ear-like lobes.
Characteristics of the Chinese rose
1. It has strong cold resistance and can tolerate low temperatures of -15 degrees.
2. The flower shape is mostly rather small and delicate, and the petals are generally 5.
3. The scent is sweet, and the prickles on the branches are few, large and easy to see.
4. The Chinese rose blooms in all four seasons, so it is known as the “Queen of Flowers”.
