How to make an asparagus fern bonsai? A detailed guide to the latest method
The asparagus fern has a graceful posture, slender and supple branches, distinct layers, and an orderly arrangement of heights; its cloud-like fronds are elegant and distinctive, winning people's favor. If the asparagus fern is turned into a bonsai through a designed composition and displayed on a balcony or indoors, it appears even more delicate and serene, adding no small amount of pleasure to life. Below are the key points for making an asparagus fern bonsai.
Choosing the bonsai materials
1. Select a 56cm irregular-shaped white marble shallow pot and its matching stand.
2. Select two asparagus ferns a little over 10cm tall and growing well, and one asparagus fern about 20cm tall.
3. Select two pieces of landscape stone only about 10cm tall.
4. Select several horse and sheep figurines of varying sizes.
5. An appropriate amount of potting soil and moss.
Shaping the asparagus fern bonsai
Knock the 3 asparagus ferns out of their cultivation clay pots or small plastic pots, and remove half of the old potting soil. First spread a thin layer of potting soil over the surface of the white marble shallow pot, plant the tallest asparagus fern at the right end of the pot with its curved branches and leaves pointing left, plant the second-tallest asparagus fern not far to the left of the first one and suitably close to the back rim of the pot, then plant the shortest asparagus fern at the boundary between the 1/3 and 2/3 points along the pot's length, with its curved branches and leaves also pointing left, so that the orientation of the three asparagus ferns is coordinated and unified.
Then look from afar and examine up close, adjusting the positions of the asparagus ferns in the pot until a natural and graceful effect is achieved.
Embellishing the asparagus fern bonsai
The asparagus fern's branches are slender and curved, which expresses softness, and the irregular white marble pot is also curved all around; this scene has more than enough softness but not enough masculine firmness. A superior scene needs a balance of firmness and softness. On the pot surface, at a suitable position toward the right rear, place two upright pieces of landscape stone; the stone is hard and its left and right side lines are straight, which expresses firmness. On the potting soil on the pot surface, spread a layer of moss to achieve a greening artistic effect.
Finally, spray clean water onto the asparagus ferns and moss, and moisten the potting soil.
