How to propagate fringetree by cuttings? Latest technique and method tutorial
Fringetree, also known as Luobosi flower, tea tree, April snow, etc., is a deciduous tree of the Oleaceae family, genus Chionanthus. The tender leaves of the fringetree can be used as a tea substitute and have certain medicinal value; its wood is relatively good and can be made into utensils and used for joinery; the fringetree has luxuriant branches and leaves, with large and beautiful flowers, and strong stress resistance, making it an excellent afforestation and ornamental tree species. Its fruit has a high oil content and is also an important energy plant. Below, I will introduce some of the cutting propagation of the fringetree.
Because the seed coat of the fringetree is hard, the seeds are difficult to germinate, and its growth rate is relatively slow. Relying on seed propagation limits its propagation speed to a certain extent. Cutting propagation is simple to operate, low in cost, and can greatly shorten the years required for cultivation.
Fringetree cutting propagation is generally carried out from July to August. Select semi-lignified branches of the current year and cut them into cuttings 300px-375px long, with a flat upper end and a horseshoe-shaped lower end. Use sandy loam soil as the substrate. Before use, disinfect it with quintozene. After disinfection, carry out one deep flood irrigation. When the substrate is in a mostly moist state, cutting can be carried out. Before cutting, dip the cuttings in ABT rooting agent. The plant and row spacing is 250px×500px. After cutting, water thoroughly once every 7 days, spray once in the morning and once in the evening every day, provide shade from 9 o'clock to 18 o'clock in the afternoon, apply cow and horse manure throughout the nursery bed once before winter, water the freezing water thoroughly and sufficiently, and set up an arched shed with plastic film to help it overwinter safely.
After the fringetree is cut, strengthen water and fertilizer management in the second year, and transplanting can be carried out in the spring of the third year.
