Money trees are drought-tolerant, but that does not mean they do not need watering. When growing a money tree, how often you water it directly affects its growth. So how do you water a money tree? Today, the editor will introduce how often to water a money tree and the watering methods for money trees!

The Money Tree's Growth Habits

Money trees like to grow in high temperatures and semi-shaded environments. Their stems can store a lot of water and nutrients, and they have strong stress resistance and drought tolerance. Money trees are easy to cultivate and like to grow in fertile, well-drained sandy loam soil. The optimal growth temperature for a money tree is 20-30°C, and temperatures below 5°C make it prone to cold damage.

How Often Should You Water a Money Tree?

Money trees have strong drought resistance, so you do not need to water them too much when growing them. Generally, watering a money tree once a week is enough. In high summer temperatures, transpiration is greater, so you can appropriately water the money tree more; in winter, when temperatures are lower, the money tree grows slowly, so you can appropriately reduce the frequency and amount of watering.

In addition, watering differs for plants of different sizes. Large and medium-sized plants in vigorous growth need more water, while newly potted small plants need less water. If the watering amount is too large, it easily causes root rot, making the money tree's leaves droop, lose their luster, or even fall off. At this point, it should immediately be moved to a cool place, watering should be reduced to the minimum, and as long as the potting soil is not dry, that is enough; spray the leaf surface multiple times a day with a spray bottle, stop fertilizing with water, and after about 15 to 20 days it can gradually recover.

How Do You Water a Money Tree?

During the care process for a money tree, too little watering can cause branch and leaf development to stall; too much watering may cause root rot and death of the plant. Only when the amount of water given to a money tree is moderate can its branches and leaves be full and large. Watering a money tree should follow two principles: better wet than dry, and “two more, two less.” That is, when growing a money tree, you must ensure the potting soil does not dry out. In the high-temperature summer season, water more; at low winter temperatures, water less. Large and medium-sized plants in vigorous growth need more water, while newly potted small plants need less water. Also, in summer, the potting soil should be kept relatively dry, and the branches and trunk should be sprayed frequently with water, with the amount of spray such that the branches and trunk are moist but water does not drip into the soil. In addition, make sure every watering soaks through, but do not let water accumulate. Money trees like moisture, so during normal care you can use two methods, moistening the branches and leaves and moistening the fertilized soil, to provide moisture retention.

1. Moistening the branches and leaves means spraying water on the leaf surfaces and branches and trunk with a spray bottle in the morning and evening. This not only cleans the leaf surfaces and ensures the money tree's photosynthesis, but also provides moisture retention.

2. Moistening the fertilized soil follows the money tree's growth pattern. In spring and summer, when the money tree is in its growth period, replenish water and fertilizer accordingly. In summer, transpiration is obvious, and the money tree's demand for water is strong. You can correspondingly increase the watering amount on the condition that the soil remains breathable. Especially in continuous hot, sunny weather, watering once every 2-4 days is more suitable.
