Variety traits of marigold
1. “Discovery” series: The Discovery series marigold has a full plant form and is dwarf. In pots, plant height is 15-20 cm, and in open-field cultivation 22.5-25 cm. Under long daylight it flowers earlier, has a long flowering period, compact spherical flowers, all double-petaled, flower diameter 7.5 cm, dark green narrow leaves, and rich flower colors. This series is known for flower color and plant type, is suitable for potted plants and flower beds, and has good heat tolerance and lodging resistance. Colors include orange and yellow.
2. “Antigua” series: The Antigua series marigold can bloom 60 days after sowing no matter when it is sown, and can be sold after 8 weeks in bag culture. In pots for 10 weeks, the plant type is neat and uniform and can cover the entire flowerpot. The effect is also relatively good when cultivated in open garden fields. In pots, plant height is 25-30 cm; in open-field cultivation, 32.5-40 cm. It has abundant flowers, all double-petaled, in four colors, namely: gold, orange, yellow, and pale yellow.
3. “Inca” series: The Inca series marigold has large flowers, with flower diameter reaching 10-12.5 cm. The flowering period lasts throughout the entire summer. It is double-petaled and early-flowering, and will continue to open after other marigolds have faded. Plant height is 35 cm, and the leaf shape is graceful and dark green, giving a clear and neat effect. The plant type and flowering period are uniform. It can tolerate high temperatures of 32-38°C, and the flower bed effect is excellent. 12-15 cm, plant 3 plants per pot; 10 cm, plant 1 plant per pot. Colors include orange, yellow, and gold.
4. “Abundance” series: The Abundance series marigold has a plant height of 30-35 cm. It flowers about 10 days later than Discovery and Antigua, has a long flowering period, many flowers, is completely double-petaled, has compact flower balls, and flower diameter 9 cm. It grows better in hot, humid summers and is especially suitable for ground-planted flower beds, and can also be used as a garland. Colors include orange, gold, and yellow.
5. “Sweet Cream” series: The Sweet Cream series marigold is an improved variety of the old “Drifting Snow” series, opening pleasing creamy white flowers. It has good growth habits, a neat plant type, plant height of about 41 cm, full flowers, flower diameter 6-9 cm, and only 11 weeks from sowing to sale. It is very suitable as a flower bed and edging plant, and is also suitable for mixed planting with other plants.
6. “Gold Coin” series: The Discovery Gold Coin series marigold can be harvested in 6-8 weeks under short-day conditions, with 70-100 flowers per plant. Plant height is 90-100 cm. Flower diameter size depends on day length, moisture, temperature, nutrients, spacing, fertilizer, and growth regulators, and under suitable conditions can reach 13 cm. Using growth regulators can make the plant strong, improve branching, promote more flowers, and regulate leaf color turning green. This series is mainly used for cut flowers and garlands, and is cultivated on a large area in Vietnam, Thailand, and southern China. There are four colors, and each color has a relatively special name.
