Canna lily, also known as orchid canna, red canna, small-flowered canna, small banana plant and so on, is a perennial herbaceous plant with fleshy roots in the Cannaceae family. It originated in tropical America, India, Malaysia and other places, and is widely cultivated across China. It is an ideal flower for greening, beautifying and purifying the environment, and has high cultivation value. Let us take a look at the growth habits of the canna lily below!

Light

Canna lilies like plenty of sunlight. During the growing period they require ample light and must receive at least 5 hours of direct sunlight every day. If the environment is too shady and the light is insufficient, the flowering period will be delayed. If they are placed in a cool spot while in bloom, the flowering period can be extended.

Temperature

Canna lilies like warmth and are not cold-tolerant. The suitable growing temperature is 15-30°C. When in bloom, to extend the flowering period, they can be placed in a spot with low temperature and no sunlight, and the ambient temperature should not be lower than 10°C. When the temperature rises above 40°C, the canna lily can be moved to a ventilated, cool place. Around the time of Frost's Descent, potted canna lilies can be moved to a place at 5-10°C, and they will safely overwinter.

Humidity

Canna lilies like a humid climate and are slightly tolerant of waterlogged conditions. During the growing period, water should be sprayed on the leaves 1-2 times a day to maintain humidity, and the pot should be watered thoroughly.

Soil

Canna lilies are not demanding about soil. They grow best in loose, fertile, well-drained sandy loam, and also adapt to growth in fertile clayey soil.
