Snapdragon is a perennial herbaceous plant that can be grown in pots. Because of its bright flower colors, it is very suitable for ornamental use. At the same time, it is also a traditional Chinese medicine with the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, cooling blood and reducing swelling. Now let us take a look at when snapdragon blooms!

When seedlings are raised in a cold frame in early spring or sown in spring and summer, it can bloom in June to July or September to October. Of course, in this case it will not grow as well as autumn-sown plants, and the blooming period is shorter. For those used as cut flowers in winter, they are often sown in late summer, cultivated in the open field, moved into a greenhouse when autumn turns cool, and kept at 22 degrees Celsius during the day and above 10 degrees Celsius at night in both autumn and winter, and they can also bloom successively in December.

How to Grow Snapdragon Best
1. Soil: Snapdragon does not have very high requirements for soil, but it grows best in fertile, loose, well-drained, slightly acidic sandy loam.
2. Watering: Snapdragon is very sensitive to moisture. The potting soil must remain moist. When raising seedlings in pots, it must also be watered thoroughly, but the potting soil must have good drainage and must not become waterlogged, otherwise it can easily cause root rot as well as yellowing and wilting of stems and leaves.
3. Sunlight: Snapdragon is a light-loving herbaceous plant and needs to grow under conditions with sufficient sunlight. The plant is dwarf and compact in clumps, grows neatly, has a consistent height, blooms uniformly, and has bright flower colors. If grown under semi-shaded conditions, the plant will grow taller, the inflorescence will elongate, and the flower colors will be dull.
4. Temperature: Snapdragon is relatively cold-tolerant but not heat-tolerant. The most suitable temperature for growth is 7 to 10 degrees. High temperatures are unfavorable for growth and development, and the most suitable temperature for flowering is around 15 to 16 degrees. For some varieties, if the temperature exceeds 15 degrees, they will not branch and the plant form will be affected.
5. Fertilizing: Strengthening the management of fertilizer and water is necessary. When fertilizing, attention should be paid to the combination of phosphorus, potassium, and so on, because it itself has root nodules and therefore has the ability to fix nitrogen, so under normal circumstances there is no need to apply nitrogen fertilizer. During the growing period, combine watering with applying fermented oil residue water once every half month, and before fertilizing, loosen the soil and remove weeds appropriately.
6. Pruning: For snapdragon, only after each flowering ends should the branches that have already bloomed be cut off. Only in this way can it better promote the sprouting of new branches and continue to bloom.
