Put a plastic bottle over your succulents and they'll get more plump the more they grow, filling the pot in just 10 days
Put a plastic bottle over your succulents and they'll become plump and juicy, growing like crazy and filling the pot
Some plant lovers' succulents are always dry and listless. How do you make them plump and juicy? Just cover them with a plastic bottle and your succulents will become round and crystal clear! Come and see how it's done!
1. Cut the plastic bottle in half around the middle
Use scissors to cut a transparent plastic bottle into 2 parts at the middle. Be sure to peel off the outer label. Both parts can be used for enclosed growing of succulents. Note that when using the upper part, don't put the cap on, and when using the lower part, poke a few holes for ventilation.
2. Don't enclose them right after watering
If you water them and then immediately enclose them, it may cause root rot. It's best to let them sit in a well-ventilated place overnight after watering, letting some of the moisture in the soil evaporate, before enclosing them.
3. Put the plastic bottle over the succulents
After you put the plastic bottle over the succulents, it creates a greenhouse environment, keeping the evaporated moisture inside the plastic bottle and raising the air humidity. Watch your succulents' condition closely. In less than 1 month, they'll become round and crystal clear, growing 3 times faster than without enclosure.
4. After enclosure ends, observe your succulents' condition closely
After 1 month of enclosure, remove the plastic bottle. At this point the succulents' resistance will be relatively weak, so plant lovers should watch their condition closely to prevent pests, diseases and frost damage. If nothing unusual appears within 2 weeks, then there's no problem.
5. Which succulents are suitable for enclosure?
Plant lovers should note that not all succulents are suitable for enclosure. Haworthia types like Haworthia cooperi, Astrophytum asterias and Haworthia retusa are all suitable for enclosure, and will quickly become incredibly plump!
6. Winter, spring and autumn are suitable seasons for enclosure
Winter, spring and autumn are all very suitable for enclosing succulents, letting them quickly reach their best condition and grow like crazy to fill the pot!
Cut a few holes in a plastic bottle and it instantly becomes a succulent leaf-propagation tool
Many plant lovers know that you can pull leaves off succulents and put them in soil to root, but Huahua has another leaf-propagation method that roots faster and has a higher survival rate, and all you need is a plastic bottle!
1. Pull off the succulent leaves you want to propagate
After pulling off the succulent leaves, put them in a ventilated place for 1-2 days.
2. Cut a few holes in the plastic bottle
Find a clean transparent plastic bottle and use scissors to cut holes in the part above the middle of the bottle. It's best to cut them into oval shapes so the succulent leaves can be inserted into the holes easily. For the lower part of the plastic bottle, just cut one hole as a water-adding opening.
3. Add water to the bottle and insert the leaves into the small holes
Add clean water to the plastic bottle, making sure the water level doesn't go above the water-adding opening. Insert the succulent leaves into the holes and place them in a spot with bright indirect light. Make sure there's ventilation, add water whenever the level drops, and mist the leaves if they become soft and shriveled.
4. The leaves will root in about 7 days
The water at the bottom of the plastic bottle maintains the humidity inside the bottle, letting the leaves quickly grow thick roots and healthy little shoots. Once the roots reach 2-3 cm, you can take them out and move them into soil.
5. Take out the leaves and transplant them into pots
Be careful when taking out the leaves so you don't damage the leaves or little shoots. If they're hard to remove, use scissors to cut the bottle open to keep the roots and little shoots intact. Plant the leaves in loose, breathable soil and place them in a spot with bright indirect light and good ventilation.
