Aspidistra is also known as large-leaf evergreen, bamboo-leaf plate, nine-dragon plate, bamboo-joint tendon-stretcher, etc. It is a perennial evergreen herbaceous plant of the genus Aspidistra in the Liliaceae family, native to the southern provinces and regions of China, and is now cultivated throughout China, widely used, and has extremely high ornamental value. Now let us take a look at what to do about yellowing leaves on an Aspidistra!

Excessive light

[Cause] Aspidistra dislikes direct sunlight, and even a short period of exposure to strong sunlight can cause leaf scorch and yellowing, reducing its ornamental value.

[Solution] Aspidistra can be grown in a bright indoor spot all year round, but whether indoors or outdoors, it must not be placed in direct sunlight.

Insufficient light

[Cause] Aspidistra is extremely tolerant of shade, and can even be displayed in a dark room for several months, but long-term excessive darkness is not conducive to the sprouting and growth of new leaves. If kept in a dark place with too little light for a long time, the leaves of the Aspidistra will turn yellow.

[Solution] If Aspidistra is placed in a dark room, it is best to move it every so often to a place with bright light for a period of care, to benefit growth and display, especially during the period from new leaf sprouting to new leaves reaching maturity, when it must not be placed in too dark a spot.

Overwatering

[Cause] Overwatering is also one of the causes of yellowing leaves in Aspidistra. Aspidistra likes water and has a certain tolerance, and even several days of drought will not kill it, but too much watering will affect root respiration and cause leaves to yellow.

[Solution] Water Aspidistra by the principle of watering when dry and stopping when wet; do not water too much, but not too little either, as it needs sufficient water during the growing period.

Overly concentrated fertilizer

[Cause] Aspidistra does not have a particularly large demand for fertilizer, and it is best to apply only a light fertilizer each time. Too much fertilizer will burn the roots, disrupting the growth of the Aspidistra, and the leaves will turn yellow due to fertilizer damage.

[Solution] Apply a dilute liquid fertilizer 1-2 times a month to promote the sprouting of new leaves and robust growth and to keep the leaves fresh and bright; do not apply too much fertilizer.

Pest infestation

[Cause] Aspidistra cared for indoors is highly prone to red spider mites, and the appearance of pests is also a cause of yellowing leaves in Aspidistra.

[Solution] Frequently check both sides of the leaves, and promptly spray dicofol, hexythiazox, etc. for control.
