Succulents is a general term for a class of plants in which at least one of the three vegetative organs - root, stem and leaf - is thick and juicy, capable of storing a large amount of water, and which has at least one kind of fleshy tissue. Sometimes people like to call these plants desert plants or psammophytes.

Sometimes people like to call these plants desert plants or psammophytes. Now let us take a look together at whether succulents can be placed in the bedroom!

Can succulents be placed in the bedroom?

Succulents can be placed in the bedroom. Most plants carry out photosynthesis during the day, absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen, and respire at night, absorbing oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide, so they are generally not very suitable for indoor planting and placement. But many succulents are just the opposite: because they grow in arid and hot regions, to avoid water loss during the day they close their stomata, and at night the stomata open to absorb CO2 and then form malic acid stored in the large vacuole, releasing CO2 during the day for photosynthesis. This unique metabolic mode is called “Crassulacean acid metabolism”, so succulents are very suitable for indoor planting and placement.

Can succulents be put in the sun?

Succulents can be put in the sun, but in summer they should not be exposed to too much sun, and even if they need sun they must not be placed directly in the sun for baking. Although succulents mostly prefer a cool, semi-shaded environment, they should not be placed completely in a hidden spot either. Any variety of succulent should be given sufficient light during the growing season; if it is too hidden, the plant will become loose in shape, not compact, with thin and elongated leaves, and so on. Conversely, if the light is too strong, it will cause poor leaf growth, and sometimes strong direct sunlight will even scorch the leaves, leaving ugly scars.

How to grow succulents so they grow fast?

1. Temperature: The indoor temperature for succulents is best kept at around 15-28 degrees; generally indoor temperatures are suitable. The maximum limit is that the lowest must not go below 5 degrees, and the highest must not be above 35 degrees.

2. Light: For succulents, try to choose the place with the longest light duration for placement, and when light is insufficient, do not easily move the succulents outdoors for growing.

3. Watering: For succulents, spray watering gives relatively ideal results. It is best to water when there is plenty of sunlight, and the frequency can be adjusted by yourself. In places with dry air, take care to water more.

4. Fertilizing: Succulents do not need fertilizing in summer. In winter, if conditions permit, you can fertilize once a month. For fertilizer, you can choose decomposed dilute liquid fertilizer or compound fertilizer.

5. Pests: Succulents generally do not have many pests. Common ones include red spider mites, scale insects, whiteflies, etc. Check often to see whether there are insects on them, and after finding them you can remove them manually yourself.

6. Rot prevention: Overwatering, air that is too humid, pests and so on can all cause rot in succulents. At this time, the rotten parts need to be cut off as soon as possible, and the tools used are best disinfected to avoid infecting other plants.
