Its stem is spherical or oval, with several longitudinal ribs on the ball body, and dense spines on the ribs. It usually blooms in the early morning or evening, with flowers growing among the spines along the longitudinal ribs, in silvery white or pink, lasting from a few hours to one day. Now let us take a look together at when the cactus ball blooms!

When does the cactus ball bloom?

The cactus ball usually blooms around May, and the duration of blooming also varies according to the variety. Some, such as the grass ball, may bloom for only a few hours to one day, while some, such as Yu Weng Fei Hua Yu and the like, can stay open for about two to three days. In general, if you want to see a cactus ball bloom, it needs to be cultivated for at least 3 to 4 years and the ball diameter must reach at least 3 to 4 cm. However, depending on the cactus ball variety, the ease of blooming also differs. Generally, those in the genus Gymnocalycium bloom relatively easily, such as Fei Hua Yu, while the golden barrel cactus is very difficult to see bloom. It is said that it takes one or two decades before it will bloom.

Why does the cactus ball not bloom?

1. Not enough time: The cactus ball is generally cultivated for 3 to 4 years, and when the ball diameter reaches 3 to 4 cm, it should be able to bloom.

2. The plant is too small: If the cactus ball plant is not large enough, it will not bloom. Generally, it will bloom only at around 10 to 15 cm.

3. Poor management: If the cactus ball does not get sunlight during cultivation or is watered too much, it will not bloom.

4. Wrong season: The cactus ball mostly blooms in May to June. If the season is wrong, it will not bloom.

How can the cactus ball bloom?

1. Soil: The soil for planting the cactus ball is best kept somewhat loose and also rich in nutrients. You can buy some nutrient soil specially for growing cacti. This helps the plant absorb water and air, and can also encourage it to bloom earlier.

2. Light: The cactus ball likes ample sunlight and ultraviolet rays. In seasons with little rain, try to place it outdoors as much as possible. This provides better light and ventilation conditions, is very helpful for the plant's vigorous growth, and can also encourage it to bloom earlier.

3. Temperature: The best growing temperature for the cactus ball is 20 to 30°C, and it is best if the temperature difference between day and night is somewhat large, as this benefits its growth. Be careful not to let it remain in a hot, stuffy environment all summer, and in winter the temperature should not be lower than 5 degrees.

4. Water: Water the cactus ball once every 1 to 2 days from April to June. From July to August, when the temperature exceeds 38°C, ventilation should be strengthened and watering controlled. In winter, if the room temperature is above 15°C, it can be watered normally; if the room temperature is 5 to 10°C, water once every half month; if it is below 5°C, do not water.

5. Fertilizing: Appropriate fertilizing during the cactus ball's growing season can promote its blooming. Do not fertilize when the temperature exceeds 32 degrees or is below 20 degrees. For fertilizer, choose things such as chicken manure, bone meal, and cake fertilizer. After fully decomposing, dilute with water and pour it into the pot.
