The banyan tree is also known as the small-leaved banyan, evergreen, banyan whiskers, and so on. It is a tree of the genus Ficus in the mulberry family. In subtropical regions such as South China and Southwest China, banyan trees can be used to beautify gardens. The aerial roots hanging down from the canopy can create a natural tropical rainforest landscape for the garden environment, and they can also be made into bonsai to decorate courtyards, bedrooms, and so on. Now let us take a look at banyan tree seed prices and growing methods!

How much is a jin of banyan tree seeds?

The price of banyan tree seeds varies greatly depending on the variety. The seeds of ordinary banyan trees are generally about 20 to 30 yuan per jin, the seeds of small-leaved banyan are about 50 to 80 yuan per jin, and the seeds of large-leaved banyan are relatively expensive, usually about 450 to 600 yuan per jin. In nature, banyan trees mainly rely on birds to spread their seeds. In production, because banyan tree seeds are very small and threshing is also very difficult, propagation is mostly done by cuttings or layering.

How are banyan tree seeds planted?

1. Careful seed selection: Banyan tree seeds are collected in October each year when the fruit ripens, spread out to dry in the sun, and then placed in water for about twelve hours to absorb enough water so that they sprout early and evenly. Then the plump seeds that sink to the bottom are scooped out and kept for sowing.

2. Preparing nursery beds: Banyan trees are suitable for loose soil rich in humus that is neutral or slightly acidic. Choose a field with warmth and humidity, good air circulation, sufficient sunlight, and convenient drainage and irrigation as the nursery site, then level it and make beds.

3. Even and sparse sowing: Sow banyan tree seeds evenly and sparsely on the bed surface, then cover with a thin layer of rice straw to prevent rain from washing them away. After sowing, water thoroughly, and afterward keep the bed surface alternately dry and wet. Be sure to avoid waterlogging, which can cause seedlings to rot. About twelve days after sowing, they will germinate.

4. Lifting and transplanting seedlings: When banyan tree seedlings reach seven cm to eight cm in height, they can be lifted and transplanted. Use plastic nursery bags to cultivate individual seedlings separately, which helps the fine seedling root system grow and cultivates strong stems. When the seedlings reach forty cm in height, they can be transplanted to the field for cultivation.

Banyan tree growing methods

1. Light: Banyan trees like an environment with sufficient sunlight, good ventilation, and warmth and humidity. They are drought-tolerant and tolerant of partial shade. Generally, they should be placed in a ventilated and bright location; otherwise, the plant is prone to yellowing and drying out, leading to pest and disease problems, and eventually death.

2. Watering: If a banyan tree is not watered for a long time, the plant will wither from lack of water, so observe it promptly and water according to whether the soil is dry or wet to maintain soil moisture. However, do not water too much, otherwise the roots will rot.

3. Fertilizing: Banyan trees relatively like fertilizer. Applying more than 10 granules of compound fertilizer each month is enough. When fertilizing, bury the fertilizer into the soil along the edge of the flower pot, and water immediately after fertilizing. However, too many fertilizer applications can also harm the growth of banyan trees.

4. Temperature: For banyan trees, the suitable growing temperature should not differ too much between day and night. A difference of 10 degrees can easily cause leaf drop and death. Usually, pay attention to placing them in a bright, light-transmitting location, and in summer pay attention to appropriate shading.

5. Pruning: During the peak growing season, pinch the growing tips and remove buds from the plant. In autumn, carry out one major pruning, cutting off leggy branches, parallel branches, diseased and weak branches, crossing branches, and so on. After that, pruning may be omitted.
