What to do about root rot in Cymbidium orchids? The latest treatment methods are here
Cymbidium is a general term for a type of orchid with large flowers. This type of orchid is generally a hybrid, with large and gorgeous flowers and a vigorous, striking appearance that makes people very fond of it. Although Cymbidium is a hybrid variety, problems can still arise if it is not cultivated properly, and root rot is one of the more serious ones. Below, Qinnong Web introduces the treatment methods for Cymbidium root rot.
1. Cut off the rotted root parts
The first step is to cut off the part of the Cymbidium where the roots have rotted. First, remove the plant from the soil, place it in a cool, ventilated place for one or two days, cut off all the blackened rotted roots, and remove the growing medium that was next to the rotted roots, leaving no hidden trouble behind. Most cases of Cymbidium root rot are caused by excessive watering or excessive fertilizing, so after discovering root rot in the plant, immediately stop reducing watering and stop fertilizing.
2. Disinfection
Soak the plant in potassium permanganate diluted 1000 times for about one hour, take it out, rinse it clean with clean water, and then place it in sunlight for 2 hours. The purpose of doing this is to disinfect the plant through potassium permanganate and sunlight exposure.
3. Repotting
After the above two steps are completed, it is time to repot the Cymbidium, because the old pot may contain some unpredictable pathogens, and planting it in the old pot again may cause root rot again. The new pot must have good breathability and be able to drain water in a timely manner. Some gravel or similar material can be placed at the very bottom of the new pot to enhance drainage. The old pot must be thoroughly washed and placed in the sun for several days before it can be used again.
4. Daily management
After the Cymbidium has been replanted, water it thoroughly to settle the roots, keep it under weak light for more than 10 days, spray twice a day, and do not fertilize before new shoots grow. The amount of watering should also be controlled. Because spraying is used, the amount of watering can be appropriately reduced.
The above are the relatively general treatment methods after Cymbidium root rot compiled by Qinnong Web for everyone. Have you learned them? Cultivating Cymbidium actually requires a certain process and patience. The seedling cultivation stage alone requires 2 to 3 years of cultivation before it can enter the reproductive stage, so if you grow Cymbidium at home, you must treat it with great care!
