Speaking of the Anthurium plant, the thing many flower lovers fear most when growing Anthurium is winter. Winter is a hurdle for Anthurium. In our country, there is basically no way for Anthurium grown outdoors in winter to survive. Its minimum tolerated temperature is above 10 degrees to survive; below 10 degrees it will freeze to death. So below we will teach everyone how to care for Anthurium in winter, to help all you flower lovers get through the tough time~

1. Temperature

It must be cared for indoors and the room temperature must be well controlled. Its optimal growth temperature is 18 degrees-28 degrees; above 35 degrees or below 14 degrees is no good. In winter, if the room temperature is below 14 degrees, you need to increase the temperature. You can use methods such as putting a plastic bag over it or turning on the heating to prevent cold damage.

2. Humidity

The growing environment for Anthurium needs relatively high air humidity, generally not lower than 50%. A high-temperature, high-humidity environment is more favorable for its growth. In winter, indoor temperatures are relatively high, and we need to maintain the humidity of the plant and leaves, but it must not be too wet, otherwise at night it will cause cold damage to the plant.

3. Light

Flower lovers who have grown it all know that Anthurium is a tropical plant, but it does not grow in direct sun. It grows beneath the rainforest, and is a shade-loving plant. So in winter, just place it in an indoor spot with light, and then pay attention to ventilation.

4. Watering methods and precautions

When watering, do not water directly. We should first observe whether the soil of the Anthurium needs watering. If it has cracked or turned white, that means it is short of water. In winter, the temperature is relatively low and it is rather cold, so we should not spray water directly on the leaves; the plant cannot take it. On rainy days in summer, you can skip watering; on sunny days, just keep it moist, and you can also decide based on the situation. Use your finger to push aside the soil to a depth of 1cm; if it is still dry, then you can water.

5. Fertilizing

If you want the Anthurium to bloom more and more abundantly, we need to fertilize it regularly. Anthurium fertilizing is often done together with watering. Generally, a compound fertilizer of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium is chosen for fertilizing. In winter, fertilize about once a week. You can buy special Anthurium fertilizer on the market.

6. Pests and diseases

Anthurium does not have many insect pests; its insect resistance is relatively good. The main thing is to watch out for damage by snails, moth larvae and aphids. Common diseases include bacterial leaf blight, anthracnose, root rot and so on. For diseases we can only prevent them, and then regularly spray chemicals for sterilization. You can use mancozeb or carbendazim.

The above are the methods for growing Anthurium in winter. In addition, in winter we can put a layer of plastic bag over the top of the Anthurium, take it off during the day to let it breathe and get some light. Also, the branches and leaves of Anthurium are toxic, so everyone must be careful when touching it. Once you touch it, you must deal with it promptly and wash your hands immediately, to avoid accidentally eating it.
