The peace lily (Spathiphyllum) is a very popular foliage plant. Whether in China or in Europe, it is a very popular flowering plant to grow. Its flower has no petals, only a white spathe and a thick fleshy spadix, looking just like a palm. Because its color is white, it was named the peace lily. Peace lilies can be grown not only in soil but also hydroponically. What should you do if a hydroponic peace lily does not bloom? Below, Shuashuai will explain the solutions to a hydroponic peace lily not blooming!

1. Unreasonable lighting

A plant like the peace lily prefers a cool, ventilated growing environment, and likes to grow under scattered light, with intensity around 60 percent. But once there is not enough light, the plant will not grow upright enough, the flower buds will not get enough nutrients, and the conditions for blooming will be affected. If the light is too strong, it is prone to dropping leaves, especially in summer when moisture on the leaves evaporates very quickly, and being exposed to the sun will scorch them in no time. Flowers are even more susceptible to sunburn than leaves, so this will affect the blooming of the flower buds, and may even prevent the buds from forming at all.

2. Inappropriate temperature

Compared with soil-grown peace lilies, hydroponic peace lilies can tolerate high temperatures somewhat better, but their tolerance for severe cold is limited. If the temperature is too low, it will cause abnormal blooming, or delay the flowering period. So if you want the peace lily to bloom smoothly, you must keep the surrounding temperature above 20 degrees, but it cannot be too high either. Once it exceeds 35 degrees, it will stop growing. It is best to control the ambient temperature between 20-28 degrees; for hydroponic peace lilies, the temperature must be well controlled.

⟦NL>3. Water quality problems

Using hydroponics places very high demands on water quality. Ordinary hydroponic containers tend to grow algae, which not only makes the ornamental effect worse but also competes with the peace lily for nutrients, and the oxygen consumption in the water increases. If the water is not changed frequently enough, it is unfavorable for its growth and blooming.

In summer, the peace lily should have its water changed once every week. At the Start of Winter, the number and frequency of watering should be reduced, changing the water about once every half a month. When changing the water for the peace lily, you only need to submerge one-half of the roots in water; it must not exceed two-thirds. The other parts can all be left exposed.

4. Insufficient fertilizer

Fertilizer is also very important for the growth of the peace lily. For hydroponic peace lilies, you should buy the culture solution specifically for peace lilies, or a nutrient solvent is also acceptable. Each time you change the water, just slowly pour it in at the same time. When it reaches the bud stage, you can water it with potassium dihydrogen phosphate, about three times is enough.

The above are the reasons why hydroponic peace lilies do not bloom and the solutions. There are still certain differences between hydroponic and soil-grown peace lilies. When growing hydroponically, to maintain moisture you only need to maintain the air humidity of its culture bottle and the surrounding environment. Usually, if you find that the temperature is too high and the air is very dry, you can spray more water, and you can also spray a little on the leaves, but not too much. Change the water frequently to avoid the production of anaerobic bacteria in the water that could harm its root system.
