The Latest Guide to Growing and Caring for Money Trees: Methods and Precautions Explained
The money tree has an auspicious name and symbolizes wealth and good fortune. Placed indoors, it is believed to bring good luck and is one of the more popular potted plants. So how should we grow it? And what precautions should we keep in mind during the growing process? Below, the editor will share its growing methods and precautions to teach you how to grow a money tree correctly.
Growing Methods
1. Plenty of sunlight: The money tree likes a sunny, well-lit environment and has a relatively high demand for light. With insufficient light, branches and leaves will twist and deform, reducing its ornamental value. Avoid direct sunlight; when the sun is too strong, the leaves will get sunburned and develop white spots.
2. Watering: It has a strong adaptability to moisture. If watered too little, branches and leaves will stop growing; if watered too much, excess water accumulation will cause root rot and death; with an appropriate amount of water, it grows well with thick, lush branches and leaves. Keep the soil moist when watering; under normal conditions, watering once every half month is enough. In hot weather, water appropriately depending on the situation.
3. Soil: It has relatively high soil requirements and prefers loose, fertile, well-draining, breathable acidic soil. Avoid alkaline or heavily clayey soil.
4. Temperature and humidity: It likes a hot and moderately humid environment. During the germination period, keep the temperature at 25-38 degrees, but the temperature should not be too high; above 35 degrees, plant growth is unfavorable and prone to pathogen infection. It can still grow normally below 10 degrees, but it should not go below 5 degrees; too low a temperature will cause leaf drop and may even lead to plant death.
5. Fertilizing: It has a relatively high demand for nutrients, far exceeding other flowering plants. Fertilizer should make up one third of the potting soil. Note that during its growing season, which is from May to September, it should be fertilized once every half month so that its roots grow strong and its leaves flourish.
Precautions
1. Braiding: During the seedling stage of the money tree, three to five plants can be put in one pot, and their stems can be braided into different shapes. After braiding, the shape is unique, and the branches and leaves are clearly layered and well arranged, which improves its ornamental value.
2. Pruning and repotting: Money trees are generally pruned once a year, often together with repotting. Replace the old potting soil, switch to a slightly larger pot, and place base fertilizer at the bottom of the pot, making up one third of the potting soil. Prune plants with a loose shape, cut off weak branches and withered leaves, and replant them in soil.
3. Pests and diseases: The main harm is diseases caused by aphids and scale insects. During the growing period, they mostly occur on the leaves or leaf stalks. This is caused by the relatively warm temperature indoors but poor ventilation. If diseases are found, they can be washed with water or removed manually by brushing with a brush.
The above is an introduction to the growing methods and precautions for money trees. As long as we do the things described above well, we can grow a healthy money tree and bring good luck to ourselves and our families.
