How to Grow Orchids? A Detailed Guide to the Latest Cultivation Methods
Orchid is actually another name for a type of orchid, and at present many flower growers in China are cultivating orchids. As an ornamental plant, it is quite popular with everyone, and this has a lot to do with the symbolic meaning of the orchid. So how should orchids be grown? Fellow flower growers can learn about it together.
1. Soil Selection
When growing orchids, the soil at the cultivation site is very important. The flower shed can be similar to other flower sheds, but the soil must be handled very carefully. First, the soil must be mixed with organic fertilizer, then composted for a period of time, generally about one month. Second, a certain amount of screened fine sand must be added, with the ratio controlled at about 4:1, that is, 4 parts soil need to be mixed with 1 part sand; this is the soil for the early cultivation stage. For the later stage of transplanting into pots, the soil needs to be controlled at 9 parts soil mixed with 1 part sand.
2. Fertilization Treatment
Orchids have a relatively low demand for fertilizer, because the soil used for planting has already been composted. Therefore, in the early stage, applying a small amount of base fertilizer buried at the bottom of the pit is enough. In the later stage, before and after leaf growth, one topdressing is needed, mainly phosphorus fertilizer, to make the root system more developed. In the middle and late stages, after the leaves exceed 8-10, apply one nitrogen fertilizer topdressing to make the leaves more numerous. Further topdressing depends on demand; if growth is relatively slow, check whether fertilizer is the cause. Once the later growth reaches a certain level, no more topdressing should be applied. Orchids that grow too large are not conducive to survival.
3. Watering Treatment
Moisture is something fellow flower growers must pay attention to. Data shows that abnormal growth in flowers is often caused by improper watering. Watering should be based on the soil moisture conditions at the orchid planting site. When the surface soil of about 1 cm is found to have formed clods and shows an obvious dry color, water promptly. If the soil, when placed in the hand and squeezed hard, still has some moisture, then watering can be temporarily skipped. Normal watering time is once every 3-5 days, and when the weather turns cold, the interval doubles. Each watering should be applied evenly, moistening the soil about 2-3 cm.
4. Cultivation Management
⟦NL>When managing orchids, flower growers should pay attention to the following details. First is planting density, ensuring that the orchids do not come into contact with each other during growth, otherwise the two will compete for fertilizer. Second, fallen leaves must be taken away after inspecting the flower shed every day, so as to avoid leaving a source of viruses. Orchids with pests or diseases need to be isolated to avoid spreading. Generally, the soil used for each planting is used only once, and the second time requires changing the soil.
