Spider plant, also known as orchid grass, is a perennial evergreen herbaceous plant. The flowers it produces are white, and occasionally purple petals also appear. It plays a very good role in purifying the air, so it has also been given the title of air guardian. Next, its entire plant can also be used as medicine, with very high medicinal value. At present, more and more people are growing spider plants, but flower farmers have also encountered many problems when growing spider plants. Let us learn together below how to grow spider plants.

1. Growing environment

Spider plants generally grow in warm and humid environments. They are neither cold-tolerant nor heat-tolerant, and the growing environment needs a certain amount of light, but they are also afraid of strong light. The soil at the planting site needs to be relatively fertile and loose, and at the same time the drainage and permeability of the planting site should be good. The soil is best as sandy loam, but it should not be too sandy, as this will affect the soil's water retention and permeability, causing the land to harden, thereby affecting the growth of spider plants.

2. Scientific planting

Growing spider plants is very particular. At present, the growing method most commonly used by farmers can be said to be cuttings; next are division planting and seed sowing, which are also two relatively practical growing methods. Cutting propagation is generally suitable in spring and autumn, while division planting can be done year-round, and seed planting is generally carried out around March each year. Whether it is seed sowing, division propagation, or cutting propagation, the density needs to be arranged reasonably when planting.

3. Later care

Generally, about one to two weeks after planting, basically all spider plants have survived, and at this time they can be transplanted. Farmers generally buy many small pots for transplanting, and planting about three to four plants in each pot is enough. After planting, water and fertilize in time. Especially during the period from March to September, the water requirement is very large. Generally, in spring they need to be watered once a day, while in summer they are watered once in the morning and once in the evening each day. In autumn and winter, water as little as possible, preferably once every five to six days. Spider plants need a large amount of nutrients, but when growing them we should maintain soil fertility. If the leaves of the spider plant turn yellow, then it is lacking nutrients and needs timely fertilization. Note that excessive use of nitrogen fertilizer is not suitable. At ordinary times, flower farmers prune off the yellowed or aged leaves on the lower part of the spider plant, which can promote the growth of new leaves.

4. Pest and disease control

Spider plants have relatively strong disease resistance, and few diseases occur. Among them, the most common are yellowing leaves or root rot in spider plants. Yellowing leaves are generally caused by nutritional deficiency, and as long as fertilization is carried out reasonably it is fine, while root rot is caused by excessive water, so the number of waterings and the amount of water need to be controlled. The most common pests include scale insects, whiteflies, aphids, and mites. We can use deltamethrin, carbendazim, omethoate, and dicofol respectively for spraying and killing.

The uses of spider plants are relatively wide, so there are also many people who grow spider plants and love spider plants. If everyone wants to grow spider plants on a large scale, you also need to investigate the market, understand market conditions, and then learn the growing techniques before planting.
