As a plant with extremely high ornamental value, the anthurium is certainly a variety that flower growers will not pass up. Some high-quality anthuriums can bring flower growers quite good returns, but by contrast the anthurium is also rather difficult to grow. So how should the anthurium be grown to thrive? We can start from the following directions.

1. A humid environment

As a plant with broad, thick leaves, the anthurium has a very large contact area with the air, and correspondingly it also has relatively high humidity requirements. Slightly higher humidity will keep its leaves vigorous and lively, and the flowers will also last a bit longer. During the seedling stage, it is recommended that flower growers keep the humidity environment at around 50%, and by the time it is about to bloom it should be raised to around 70%. If there are diseased plants, the humidity just needs to be lowered to prevent the disease from spreading.

2. Choosing lighting times

The anthurium is also rather particular about lighting, and unlike other flowers, the anthurium calls for diffused light exposure. It is recommended that flower growers choose materials with relatively poor light transmittance to build their greenhouse, or cover it with netting on top to achieve a diffused light effect. As for timing, the two periods from morning to around 12 o'clock and after 3 p.m. can enjoy continuous light, while the few hours at noon should be shaded to prevent the anthurium flowers from being scorched by the sun.

3. Applying fertilizer and water

Fertilizer and water are a means of ensuring the normal growth of the anthurium, so the timing of fertilizer and water must be well controlled. In the early stage, the anthurium can be given a little more fertilizer, while in the later stage, light fertilizer applied frequently should be the main approach, controlled at once every 10-15 days, and adjusted as the situation requires. When watering, drip irrigation and misting should be combined, that is, when watering, spread it evenly over the greenhouse to make sure the water soaks through the soil, and then use misting on the outside to maintain the anthurium's external humidity. This combined approach will have a relatively more obvious effect than a single method.

4. Points to note

Flower growers should pay attention to these situations when growing anthuriums. First, when watering, try not to pour directly on the roots, as this can easily lead to root rot. Second, the plants placed in the greenhouse should not be too densely spaced; the anthurium is somewhat solitary in nature, and crowding affects its growth. Third, for some yellowing leaves, first figure out the cause before dealing with them, while dead and withered leaves need to be dealt with promptly and must not be left in the greenhouse. Fourth, after discovering insects, clean them up promptly; no insect should be allowed near the greenhouse, to reduce the chance of disease.

The anthurium is relatively fragile, and some minor pests, diseases or injuries can lead to rather serious consequences, so in daily practice it is recommended that flower growers patrol the greenhouse more often and handle any situations they find as a basic measure.
