Hyacinth is a perennial herbaceous bulbous plant, originally native to Europe and other regions, and after being introduced to our country it has become very popular as an ornamental plant. The fragrance of hyacinth has effects such as relieving fatigue and refreshing the mind, and besides being ornamental, hyacinth is also one of the main plants from which aromatic oil is extracted. So how should hyacinth be grown? What precautions are there? Below, the editor brings you the growing methods and precautions for hyacinth, let's take a look!

1. Choosing the bulb

The flowering and growth of hyacinth both require relatively large amounts of nutrients, and the nutrients for hyacinth growth are mainly stored in the bulb. So in order to ensure and improve the ornamental value and growth rate of hyacinth, we should choose bulbs that are smooth and glossy on the surface, with relatively orderly scales and that are plump and rich in nutrients. The choice of bulb is very important; a good bulb determines the later growth of the hyacinth, facilitates later management, and lowers the cost of growing.

2. Choosing soil and cultivating

As just mentioned, growing hyacinth has relatively large nutritional needs, so when growing it, try to choose sandy soil that is rich in fertility, rich in humus, and well drained and irrigated. And in the later care of hyacinth, the requirements for soil are also relatively high. After choosing the soil, water it thoroughly, let the soil stay in a moist state for about a day, and then carry out cultivation. After cultivation, water promptly according to the growth of the hyacinth, and do a good job of management.

3. Controlling light

During the growth of hyacinth, sufficient light is needed. If sufficient light is not ensured, it will lead to a series of problems such as poor growth of the hyacinth, a thin and weak plant, hindered swelling of the flower buds, and loss of green color in the leaves. But the light should also not be too strong, because if it is too strong it may scorch the hyacinth leaves and shorten the flowering period of the hyacinth. Therefore we must reasonably control the light, avoid direct sunlight on the hyacinth, but also ensure there is enough sunlight.

4. Temperature and humidity

Hyacinth is a warmth-loving plant, and the growing temperature should not be too high or too low. If too high, it will affect the growth of the hyacinth, causing abnormal growth of the hyacinth and increasing the rate of blind flowers. But if too low, it easily causes freeze damage to the hyacinth, so keeping the temperature at around 25 degrees is the most suitable. And the soil should be kept at a humidity of around 65%; too high suppresses the respiration of the hyacinth and easily causes root rot, while too low means too little water, causing wilting from water shortage above ground, and in severe cases death.

5. Precautions

After successful cultivation, water and fertilizer management must be done well to prevent the hyacinth bulb from cracking at the base and rotting. And the harvest time must be well controlled; if harvested too early, the bulb is not mature enough. If not harvested in time, then when encountering rainy weather, the soil is too moist, causing the bulb to be hindered in drying in the shade, and it is extremely easy to rot during storage. Therefore when storing, ensure the storage room is dry, spread them on the ground to improve ventilation, and prevent spoilage.

During the growing of hyacinth, topdressing should be done at the right time, and topdressing should mainly be applying more but in small amounts. Spring and autumn are the peak growing seasons for hyacinth, so fertilizer needs to be applied at least twice a month. But topdressing also depends on temperature; if it exceeds the range of 10-30 degrees, then fertilization should be stopped and the temperature controlled.
