How to grow orchids? A detailed guide to the latest care methods
Orchids are one of China's ten famous flowers. Orchids have a very beautiful appearance and very high ornamental value, and orchids can also be made into the famous orchid tea or brewed into soup. They also have medicinal value such as nourishing yin and moistening the lungs, and clearing heat and detoxifying, making them a flower with very high economic value. At present, China also has a very large area of orchid cultivation bases, so how should orchids be grown? Below, the editor brings you the cultivation methods for orchids. Let's take a look!
1. Planting site
The site for planting orchids is very important, and the surrounding environment is directly related to the growth of orchids. We should appropriately adjust the surrounding environment according to changes in weather and season. In spring, summer and autumn, open-field cultivation is generally the main method, and after winter arrives they need to be placed in a greenhouse. Ensuring suitable humidity and sufficient light is very beneficial to the growth of orchids. When choosing a planting site, attention should also be paid to whether transportation is convenient, because orchids are mainly placed one by one in flower pots for cultivation, and after reaching market standards they need to be transported.
2. Potting in time
When potting, pay attention to choosing a good flower pot, add good culture soil to the flower pot, and there is no need to add base fertilizer at the early stage. After placing the orchid seedlings into the pot, pay attention to spreading out the roots to ensure the roots are fully mixed with the soil. Then lift the orchid slightly, so that the orchid pseudobulbs are level with the soil surface. Then gently press the soil with your fingers to prevent gaps in the soil, and then water in time. After potting, do a good job of shading and watering, and let them get some morning sun appropriately to ensure healthy growth of the orchids.
3. Watering management
Orchids do not require much water, and their water needs differ during different growth periods. For example, during the flowering period, their water should be appropriately reduced, otherwise it will affect the growth of the orchids. During rainy days, pay attention to rain protection and drainage. When watering, avoid the high temperatures at noon, pay attention to the amount of water, and do not water too much, to prevent root rot from waterlogging, which can cause pests and diseases and reduce commercial value. In summer, the amount of watering can be appropriately increased, and spraying in the garden can raise humidity. In winter, the amount of watering should be reduced to the minimum, but it must not be omitted entirely, to prevent the soil from drying out and affecting the growth of the orchids.
4. Reasonable fertilization
The growth of orchids also requires a certain amount of nutrients, so fertilization cannot be omitted during the growth process, but it also must not be excessive or over-applied. When new leaf buds of the orchids grow out, lightly apply nitrogen fertilizer 2-3 times, and then in spring and autumn and about 3 weeks after the flowers fall are all good times for fertilization. Fertilization should preferably be chosen in the evening after the sun sets, and then water appropriately the next morning, about once every half a month. Foliar fertilizer can also be appropriately sprayed to promote the blooming of flower buds. When orchid leaves are relatively thin, topdress in time, and when they turn black, do not topdress.
The above is a brief introduction to orchid cultivation methods. Orchid cultivation is relatively simple, but management is more difficult for large-scale cultivation. Therefore, everyone should act according to their ability when cultivating, and the number cultivated should not exceed their own management capacity, otherwise inadequate management will affect the growth of the orchids.
