Narcissus is a traditional ornamental flower, fresh and elegant, and one of the top ten famous flowers, but note that the bulb is toxic. It is generally grown in shallow water, which is easy to do; it is just that some small details need attention during growing to grow it better. To grow it to bloom, you must provide a good growing environment. The article below will mainly introduce these aspects.

1. Hydroponics

For growing a small quantity, hydroponics is generally used; it is more convenient, avoids soil-borne diseases, and is easy to manage and care for. Usually a shallow basin of water is used for growing, the container is cleaned thoroughly, and the water should not cover the bulb. It is best if the water reaches half of the bulb. This makes it easy to sprout. Small stones also need to be placed in the basin to surround the bulb and keep it upright. No fertilizer is needed; apply a little fertilizer shortly before flowering to promote blooming.

2. Soil culture

The soil culture method is mainly used for large-scale planting, growing in moist soil. The method is: choose a flower pot with holes, line the bottom with a layer of fine sand a few centimeters deep for better drainage, then use disinfected soil, plant, and bury the bulb, leaving one third of it outside. Then you can continue with care and management.

3. Light

Narcissus likes sun, so it should be placed on a windowsill to receive light, or moved outside to grow, placed in front of the house, on a balcony, or other places that can get sun. In long-daylight areas, it only needs light during the day; in short-daylight areas, it needs artificial supplemental light at night as well. After receiving light for a day in hydroponics, the water should be changed every day. Later, gradually extend the water-changing interval, until it is once a week.

4. Temperature

Below 5 degrees, narcissus suffers cold damage; above 5 degrees, it grows better; 10 degrees to 12 degrees is the best growing temperature. When the temperature is low, growth is slow and affected, the dormancy cannot be broken, and it cannot sprout and put out leaves. When the temperature is too high, the water temperature and soil temperature both rise, directly harming the roots, the absorption capacity is very weak, and growth is poor. Above 12 degrees to 15 degrees it can still grow, but afterward growth will be affected.

5. Precautions

For changing the water, fill it in the morning, and at night pour the water out and then put it back. When changing the water, note that when the temperature is low, replace it with 15 degree warm water; when the temperature is high, spray the leaves during the day to cool them, or add cold water to cool them; when it is cold, cover with plastic wrap to keep warm. Water culture is mostly done in autumn and winter, and it is not very suitable for growing in high summer temperatures. Apply fertilizer sparingly; do not apply too much fertilizer.

The growing of narcissus is mainly water culture, and sometimes soil culture as well. The key points of water culture are water-changing management and temperature control. Then there is receiving sufficient light to satisfy blooming; flowering can also be regulated through temperature and light.
