Hydrangea, also known as eight-immortal flower and ziyang flower, has large and full blooms. Its colors are varied and its ornamental value is extremely high, and summer is exactly its blooming season, but growers have found that the hydrangea they are cultivating has not bloomed. What is going on here? Let's take a look together.

1. It has not yet met the conditions for blooming

Generally speaking, hydrangea blooms on old wood. This is because the hydrangea flower ball is huge, and the newly grown tender branches cannot support its flower ball, so only after the branches have matured is there enough strength to hold up the flower ball. If it is a seedling just newly purchased, then it cannot bloom that year, and you need to take good care of it and wait until the following year for it to bloom.

2. Improper lighting

Hydrangea is a short-day plant, and it needs to maintain more than 10 hours without light each day, and only after about 6 weeks can flower buds form. If it is kept for a long time in an environment with sufficient light, it will fail to bloom. To make it bloom, first it should go through 6-8 weeks of cool conditions, then be placed in an environment of around 20 degrees to force flowering. When the inflorescence is visible, lower the temperature to around 16 degrees, and after maintaining this for 2 weeks it will bloom.

3. Improper watering

When watering hydrangea, be careful not to pour water onto the leaves, especially for hydrangea that has already formed buds and is blooming. If water is poured on them, it will cause the buds to fall off and result in failure to bloom. Therefore, when watering hydrangea, be careful, and it is best to water slowly along the edge of the pot until water leaks out from the bottom of the pot.

During cultivation, hydrangea needs timely pruning. If it is not pruned, it is also very likely to fail to bloom. Generally, after the flowers fade, the branch tips should be cut off in time to encourage it to produce new branches. When the new branches grow to about 10 cm, shorten them again. By pinching off the tips to inhibit the plant's vegetative growth, it is encouraged to produce more side branches and develop flower buds.
