What to Do When an Anthurium Gets Sunburned? A Detailed Guide to the Latest Treatment Methods
Anthurium, also called flamingo flower, is a perennial ornamental plant. Because its leaves are leathery with a waxy sheen, it is called flamingo flower. Anthurium is most commonly grown in pots, and potted plants can be moved, but if you forget by accident and it is exposed to extreme heat outside and baked in the sun for a day, sunburn will occur. Generally, when sunburn occurs, there are still some remedial measures you can take. Next, let's take a look at what to do.
1. Preventing sunburn
If an anthurium has no yellowing leaves, it can generally be grown indoors, and only taken out occasionally to get some sun. Do not put it out on very sunny days; generally, a sunny spot on a windowsill is enough. It must have good ventilation; a balcony or a covered corridor will do. But do not expose it to direct sun. Generally, on hot, bright sunny days, replenish water and mist it; an air humidity of around 65% can protect the leaves.
2. Remedial measures
If the sunburn is especially severe and the leaves have already dried up, you can cut them off right away and bring the plant indoors. Because there are still leaves that have not dried up, generally showing water-soaked symptoms, it can still recover. Bring it to a shady place, set up a shade net, and mist it every day, several times a day; after some time it may recover, but it will take a while.
3. Encouraging new leaves
After cutting off the dried-up parts, you can simply encourage new growth directly and cut off all the sunburned parts. After cutting, water once every two days, mist daily, and apply nitrogen fertilizer water about once every two to three weeks. Soon, with appropriate indirect light, new leaves will emerge, and once the leaves come out, the growth rate is fairly good too. Soon it will be a new plant again.
4. Water culture
After sunburn, simply remove the soil, wash it in water, clean the soil off the roots and the base of the stem, then culture it in clean water for one to two weeks, after which a nutrient solution can be used. Once new leaves grow, cut off all the sunburned leaves. Then continue culturing and change the water regularly. When the branches and leaves are lush, it can be replanted in a pot.
After an anthurium gets sunburned, what should you do? Generally, you can keep it moist, shade it, and wait for it to recover on its own; in severe cases, you can cut it back. But it can still be regrown with new branches and leaves. This is good for the plant's growth.
