Why doesn't the kalanchoe bloom?
Kalanchoe flowers bloom in clustered masses with rich colors, making it a beloved indoor potted flower, but many friends manage it improperly during care, which often leads to the kalanchoe not blooming and reduces its ornamental value. So why doesn't the kalanchoe bloom? Follow the editor to take a look at the reasons.
1. The flowering period has not arrived
Kalanchoe is a common household potted flowering plant with extremely high ornamental value when in bloom, and the main reason the kalanchoe does not bloom is that its flowering period has not arrived. Kalanchoe generally blooms from January to April in spring and is a perennial herbaceous plant. Outside this period, it generally will not bloom, so there is no need to worry.
2. Too little light
During the flowering period, the kalanchoe has relatively high light requirements. If it does not receive light for a long time or receives relatively little light, it is very likely to bloom sparsely or even become difficult to bloom. Therefore, for failure to bloom caused by insufficient light, promptly move it to an environment with sufficient light and give it no less than 4 hours of light per day during the flowering period, which is beneficial for its flower bud differentiation.
3. Too low a temperature
Temperature changes are also a main factor affecting kalanchoe blooming. If the growing environment temperature is higher than 30 degrees or lower than 12 degrees, its leaves will turn red and the flowering period will also be delayed. Therefore, in summer it is best to move the plant to a cool location to avoid high temperatures. In winter, when the temperature is relatively low, it is recommended to care for it indoors and control the temperature at around 15-25 degrees, so that it can also bloom normally in winter.
4. Potting soil too wet
Kalanchoe likes to grow under moist conditions, but it must not be watered too much, especially during the flowering period. If the potting soil is waterlogged and damp, the roots have difficulty breathing, causing the plant not to bloom, and in severe cases root rot and death. At this time, promptly drain the accumulated water in the potting soil, control watering, place it in a ventilated spot for care, loosen the soil appropriately, and it is advisable to maintain soil moisture at 60%.
5. Insufficient nutrients
Kalanchoe is a fertilizer-loving plant and will bloom continuously when fertilizer is sufficient. If nutrients are insufficient during the growing period, it will affect flowering and may even prevent blooming. At this time, promptly supplement once with a thin compound fertilizer, then apply liquid fertilizer once every half month, and appropriately increase phosphorus and potassium fertilizer after autumn to promote flower bud growth.
