The latest detailed guide to Lithops care methods, helping you easily grow succulents well
Because of its peculiar appearance, Lithops looks very much like a flower blooming from a stone, so it was named Lithops, and is also called the living stone, and is also known as butt flower, stone grass, stone flower, etc. It is small in size, and has been a relatively popular small succulent plant in recent years, so how should it be grown? Follow the editor and take a look.
1. Soil
To grow Lithops well, you first need to choose a growing medium suitable for its growth. Lithops likes loose, breathable soil with good water retention. If the soil's breathability is poor, it may cause the plant to rot, so you should choose a soil with grit to increase breathability. You can mix one third easily available coarse river sand, one third vermiculite and one third leaf mold to make a suitable growing medium. To ensure better growth, you can add an appropriate amount of bone meal as a base fertilizer when preparing the growing medium.
2. Temperature
Lithops likes to grow in a warm climate of 15-25 degrees, and the temperature must not be higher than 28 degrees, otherwise Lithops will enter a dormant state, so in summer you must control the temperature well and not place it in a high-temperature environment. Lithops also has relatively poor cold resistance, so in winter it should be placed indoors for growing, and the temperature should be kept above 8 degrees to avoid frost damage to the plant. In summer, with high temperatures and strong light, place it in a ventilated place with scattered light, and it should not be placed in direct sunlight, otherwise the plant will be scorched. In spring and autumn, let it receive full sun, and in winter place it in a warm place to receive light.
3. Watering
Do not water Lithops too frequently, because it does not like water very much. If watered too much, it may cause root rot, and may also cause moss to grow around it, all of which will affect its normal growth. Usually you only need to ensure that the top window of the plant has a certain firmness and will not dent when touched. That is to say, when the top window of the plant dents after being touched, or even wrinkles appear, it means it is short of water and needs timely watering.
4. Fertilizing
Lithops sheds its skin every year from February to April. During this period, reduce watering so that it can shed its skin as soon as possible. Some people like to help it shed its skin by freezing it, but this practice is not recommended. Although it can speed up Lithops shedding its skin, without sufficient experience it is very easy to injure the plant, often with more loss than gain. To make the plant grow better, after the skin shedding is finished, it is best to apply a compound fertilizer once to improve its growth ability.
