What causes yellowing leaves on nasturtium

Nasturtium is an ornamental flowering plant with relatively high ornamental value. It is also a fairly popular flower in China, and the area planted with nasturtium is now quite large. However, when growing nasturtium, problems are often encountered that reduce its ornamental value. Yellowing nasturtium leaves are one of them. So what exactly is going on with yellowing nasturtium leaves? Let's take a look below!

1. Too much water

As its name suggests, nasturtium does not have very high water requirements. Especially after nasturtium blooms, be sure to reduce watering; if too much water is given, the stems are prone to becoming leggy. And if the water is not drained in time or the drainage is poor, the roots are easily rotted, causing yellow leaves in mild cases and plant death in severe cases. So when planting, we should not only pay attention to controlling watering, but also to the soil's drainage capacity, and drain promptly when water accumulates, so as to avoid affecting the growth of nasturtium.

2. Excessive fertiliser

Although nasturtium should be fertilised appropriately as it grows, when fertilising, be sure to control the concentration and amount of fertiliser well. It must not be too concentrated or too much, otherwise the roots of nasturtium are very easily burned by the fertiliser. After the roots are burned, the absorption of nutrients and water is blocked, and without sufficient nutrients, the leaves of nasturtium will naturally be affected. When fertilising, you can choose natural fertiliser, and it must not be applied too much; meeting the nutrient needs of nasturtium's growth is enough. You can also apply a diluted special fertiliser for flowers as a top dressing.

3. Too much light

Light also has a fairly big effect on the growth of nasturtium. When growing nasturtium, we should adjust light and temperature reasonably according to seasonal changes. In the three seasons other than summer, the light is very friendly to nasturtium. But summer light is very strong, and if shade is not provided in time, the leaves may suffer sunscald. And if the temperature and light exceed what nasturtium can tolerate, the leaves will gradually go dormant, leading to a withered and yellow appearance. Therefore, in summer be sure to provide good shading for nasturtium.

4. Pests and diseases

Pests and diseases are also a main cause of yellowing nasturtium leaves. Among them, insect pests are the most serious, such as red spider mites, leaf miners and so on. These pests all harm nasturtium, sucking up its growth nutrients. This causes many wounds on the leaves, reduces photosynthetic capacity, leads to insufficient nutrients, and thus causes the leaves to turn yellow. So when planting, we must often check the growth of nasturtium. When insect eggs and the like are found, cut off that leaf, take it out of the field and burn it, then spray an appropriate insecticide around the plant for disinfection.

The above is a brief introduction to what is going on with yellowing nasturtium leaves. That is all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only, and we hope it can help you!
