Why Do Hibiscus Flowers Change Color? Detailed Explanation of the Reasons
The hibiscus blooms gorgeously, and what amazes people is that its flowers go through a color change process from white to pink, and then to deep red, making it deeply loved by many. So why do hibiscus flowers change color? Let's take a look with the editor.
1. Temperature Reasons
Hibiscus flowers change color because of temperature and nutrition. When the temperature during their growth rises or falls, their flower color changes accordingly. In the morning it is normally white, at noon when the temperature rises it becomes pink, and at sunset in the afternoon it turns deep red. This is mainly because after the content of anthocyanin substances contained in the hibiscus flower increases, a chemical reaction occurs, and this chemical reaction is the main reason causing the hibiscus flower to change color.
2. Different Varieties
There are many varieties of hibiscus. For some varieties, as the growth time becomes longer, their flower color also changes. For example, with the white-flowered cotton rose hibiscus, in the first year the flower color is pink, and by the second year the flower color changes to bright red. But the flower color of some varieties does not change, such as the double-petaled cotton rose hibiscus.
3. Different Soil
Sometimes, when the soil used for planting is different, the flower color also changes. If acidic soil is used for planting at the beginning, then the flowers produced by some varieties will be relatively lighter in color. Later, during the care process, if some alkaline soil is added, then the color of the hibiscus flower will become a bit deeper.
4. Different Work
For some varieties, the flower color is also different in the morning and in the evening. For example, the common drunken hibiscus: in the early morning its flower color is red, but as evening approaches, its flower color changes to purple-red. This is because it has absorbed enough light, so the color also changes.
