During cultivation, Epiphyllum leaves can turn yellow for various reasons, which is very detrimental to the growth and development of the Epiphyllum. So how should yellowing Epiphyllum leaves be handled? Let's learn together.

1. Shading

Epiphyllum does not have high light requirements. If it is placed under direct sun exposure during the growing season, it can easily affect its normal metabolism, and the leaf edges will gradually turn scorched yellow. At this point, we should promptly cut off the yellow leaves, move it to a ventilated, semi-shaded spot, and afterward pay attention to light intensity during the growing season, providing appropriate shade when the light is strong.

2. Increase Water

Epiphyllum prefers to grow in a humid environment and is not tolerant of drought. If it lacks water for a long time during the growing season, it will affect the plant's growth balance, and the leaves will gradually wither and yellow. So water it thoroughly once in time, then loosen the soil and improve ventilation to keep the soil well aerated. Afterward, water to keep the potting soil moist, but do not let water accumulate. Its leaves will then slowly recover.

3. Increase Temperature

Epiphyllum is relatively sensitive to changes in surrounding temperature. If the temperature is very low, the plant will grow poorly, and the leaves will also turn yellow and wither due to insufficient nutrients. At this point, artificial heating is needed. When the ambient temperature is below 8 degrees, move it into a greenhouse in time and give it full sun to avoid severe cold damage.

4. Reduce Fertilization

Epiphyllum is a fertilizer-loving plant, but it is not tolerant of heavy fertilizer or raw fertilizer. If too much fertilizer is applied during daily care, or the concentration is too high, the leaves will turn yellow and wilt. So at this point, stop fertilizing, apply an appropriate amount of superphosphate solution, then loosen the soil. Afterward, fertilize mainly with diluted fertilizer, then water with clear water.

5. Pest and Disease Prevention

When Epiphyllum is under high temperature and high humidity, it is highly susceptible to scale insects, aphids, leaf blight, and so on, mostly caused by poor ventilation. After the disease occurs, spots will appear on the leaves, eventually causing the leaves to turn yellow and wither. In the early stage of the disease, you can cut off the diseased leaves, improve indoor ventilation, and then spray a diluted omethoate solution for control.
