I. Growing methods
1. Soil
Cuban oregano likes to grow in fertile, loose soil with good drainage. A layer of vermiculite can be placed at the bottom of the pot to enhance drainage, or nutrient soil can be prepared with garden soil + leaf mold + peat soil or coarse river sand.
2. Temperature and humidity
Temperature and humidity are the basic conditions for growing Cuban oregano. Cuban oregano likes a warm climate, but the hot, stuffy environment of summer is not conducive to its growth and development, and after entering winter, its temperature requirements are relatively strict; when the ambient low temperature reaches 10 degrees, it stops growing. It also rather likes a slightly humid environment, and the growing humidity of its environment should be kept at around 50%.
3. Light
When growing Cuban oregano, you must provide it with sufficient light conditions. In the three seasons of spring, autumn and winter, it can be placed in the sunlight, and if grown indoors, it must be in a bright place. After entering summer, it should be properly shaded to avoid strong direct sunlight, which can cause leaf scorch.
4. Watering
Cuban oregano has extremely strong drought resistance. Normally there is no need to water excessively; watering once every 5-6 days is enough. Also, when watering, water must not accumulate in the flower pot, otherwise its root system will rot and in severe cases cause the plant to die.
II. Precautions
In the process of growing Cuban oregano, be sure to prune it in time, as this promotes the sprouting of new branches and makes its growth more vigorous. During cultivation, its demand for fertilizer is not great, and it avoids concentrated fertilizer. Generally, during vigorous growth, apply a dilute fertilizer once every 20 days, and in winter, stop fertilizing.
