Ixora is a fairly ornamental flowering plant. It is very popular among many people in our country, whether used for landscaping in gardens or grown in pots at home, it is a very good choice. Moreover, the roots and stems of Ixora can be used as medicine, and the leaves contain relatively many nutrients, with certain medicinal effects. Therefore, more and more people are now growing Ixora. So how should Ixora be grown? Now let's take a look together with the editor at the cultivation methods for Ixora!

1. Soil Selection

Before growing Ixora, we first need to choose a good soil. For growing Ixora, the main choice should be sandy loam soil with normal drainage and irrigation, slightly acidic, and rich in organic matter. Before planting, the soil preparation work should be done well, breaking up the clods of soil. Then, according to the fertility and structure of the soil, apply sufficient base fertilizer, mainly organic fertilizer, and mix it thoroughly with the soil. This creates a good growing environment for Ixora. If it is potted, then the soil should be prepared from garden soil, river sand, and organic fertilizer.

2. Propagation Methods

There are three propagation methods for Ixora: sowing, layering, and cuttings. However, cuttings are mainly used, and the cutting time should be in June-July each year. We should first choose semi-hardened young branches of the current year, and the branches must be guaranteed not to have flowered. Then cut them on a sunny evening, mainly choosing branches with strong growth and no pests or diseases. Cut them into cuttings about 10 cm long. If you want to increase the rooting rate of the cuttings, then before cutting, you can soak the base of the cuttings in a rooting agent such as naphthalene acetic acid. Then insert the cuttings into the soil, keep the temperature at around 25 degrees, water appropriately, and after about one month they can take root.

3. Timely Transplanting

After the cuttings take root, the transplanting work should be done well. Do it when the root length is about two cm, and it is best not to exceed two cm. If it exceeds two cm, then the roots are likely to break during transplanting. This affects the growth of the seedlings after transplanting. For potted plants, the area should be controlled well according to the size of the seedlings and the number of plants transplanted. No matter what planting method is used, sufficient light must be maintained to promote the growth of the seedlings. When planting in winter, insulation work must be done well. If the temperature is too low, it will cause leaf drop in mild cases, and in severe cases it will cause the seedlings to die from freezing damage.

4. Water and Fertilizer Management

Ixora has relatively poor drought tolerance and likes to grow in a relatively humid environment. Therefore, during the growth period of Ixora, the soil should be kept moist. This promotes the growth of Ixora's shoots and leaves, but it should not be kept moist for a long time, otherwise root rot is likely to occur. Therefore, water management should be done well according to the soil condition and weather. Then in spring, summer, and autumn, fertilization work should be strengthened. Fertilize about once a month, and the fertilizer can be organic fertilizer or compound fertilizer. This provides sufficient growth nutrients for Ixora. Finally, maintain a suitable light environment. If the light is insufficient, it is likely to cause phenomena such as fewer flowers and lighter color in Ixora.
