How to grow Cleome? The latest cultivation methods and precautions
Cleome, as the name suggests, is a beautiful flower. It gets its name because its shape closely resembles a butterfly. Its blooms are flower balls made up of many small flowers, looking extremely beautiful and attractive. Moreover, more and more people are growing it now, so how should Cleome be grown? Follow the editor to take a look at the cultivation methods and precautions for Cleome.
I. Cultivation Methods
1. Soil
Cleome has extremely strong vitality and does not have very high requirements for soil. General nutrient soil can meet its needs, but if you want it to grow luxuriantly, it is best to choose humus soil with good drainage for it. In addition, Cleome has a well-developed root system, so when choosing a flower pot, choose a larger and deeper one to create a suitable environment for its growth and development.
2. Light
Cleome likes an environment with plenty of light. Only with sufficient light can it be ensured to grow robustly. When growing Cleome indoors, it needs to be placed in a place with bright light. However, in summer the sunlight is strong, so appropriate shading is needed. The maximum temperature should not exceed 35 degrees, and the minimum temperature should not be lower than 10 degrees, otherwise its normal flowering will be affected.
3. Watering
Cleome is relatively drought-tolerant, but it still needs to be provided with sufficient water, especially in midsummer, when it should be watered regularly every day. In summer, a certain humidity level should also be maintained, which is beneficial for later growth. You can also spray water on the leaves to increase air humidity.
4. Fertilizing
Cleome has relatively high requirements for fertilizer and water. Fertilizing should follow the principle of “light fertilizer applied frequently, small amounts multiple times, complete nutrition.” Also, after fertilizing, keep the leaves and flowers dry. If grown in a pot, during the bud stage, apply 2-3 times a dilute compound fertilizer solution as a top dressing, and it can bloom in spring.
II. Precautions
1. Pinching and topping
Before flowering, pinching needs to be done twice, which can encourage it to sprout more branches. Within 1-2 weeks after potting, when the seedlings have grown to 6-10 cm and have more than 6 leaves, promptly remove the top shoots, keeping 3-4 true leaves at the lower part to encourage branching. After the first pinching, 3-5 weeks later, or when the side branches have grown to 6-8 cm, a second pinching can be carried out.
2. Potting
When potting, you can place a 2 cm thick layer of coarse-grained substrate at the bottom of the pot as a drainage layer, then spread a fully decomposed organic fertilizer once as a base fertilizer, with a thickness of 1-2 cm, then cover it with a 1-2 cm thick layer of soil. Finally, place the plant in, so that the fertilizer and roots are separated to avoid burning the roots due to direct contact.
