How long does it take for a new orchid bud to bloom, and what to do if it never blooms after growing buds
1. How long does it take for an orchid bud to bloom
Different varieties of orchids take different amounts of time from growing a flower bud to blooming. But generally, it takes several months for the bud to fully open. Some varieties that bloom more slowly, such as Cymbidium goeringii (Spring Orchid), after the bud grows, need 5-6 months to be able to bloom. In addition, there are also a few varieties of orchids that take a shorter time from growing a flower bud to blooming. For example, Cymbidium ensifolium (Fujian Orchid), from growing a flower bud to blooming generally only needs 15-30 days.
2. What to do if an orchid never blooms after growing buds
1. Keep waiting: Because most orchids need a relatively long time from growing a flower bud to blooming, there is no need to be too anxious. If the bud has just grown for 1-2 months and is in good growing condition, then there is no need to worry; continue caring for it for a few months, and when the time comes, it will naturally bloom.
2. Carry out vernalization: If the orchid being grown is a variety that needs vernalization, such as Cymbidium goeringii (Spring Orchid), Cymbidium kanran (Cold Orchid), Cymbidium faberi (Hui Orchid), etc., then before it blooms, it should be placed in an environment of about 10°C for vernalization. The time for vernalization depends on the environment where vernalization is carried out and the orchid variety being grown, but generally it needs about 1 month. If vernalization is not carried out and it is always kept in a warm place, then it may be unable to bloom.
3. Water control care: If after it grows flower buds, it is given too much water, it will also be unable to bloom. At this time, water should be controlled in time, and it should be moved to a ventilated, semi-shaded environment, and wait for it to recover.
