2. Whether kapok is a flower or a tree
Kapok belongs to the Bombacaceae family as a large deciduous tree; it is not a flower but a kind of tree, and the tree body is between 10 m and 25 m tall. It mainly grows in dry-hot river valleys and grasslands with few trees below 1400-1700 m altitude, and it also occurs in ravine monsoon forests, and many are also cultivated as street trees. It likes a growing environment with sufficient light, dryness, and warmth, and fears waterlogging and low temperatures. When cultivating it, the soil is best loose, fertile, well-drained, and slightly acidic; such a soil environment is favorable for its growth.
3. Cultivation techniques for kapok
If cultivated in dry-hot areas, it mostly blooms first and then grows leaves, but if cultivated under rainforest climate conditions, the flowers and leaves are mostly present at the same time. During the seedling stage, the water requirement is relatively high, so the soil must be kept moist, watered regularly, and fertilized once every month. After it matures, its drought tolerance becomes stronger, so watering should be reduced, and it should not be watered unless dry.
