How Long Does a Paulownia Tree Live? A Detailed Guide to Its Blooming Time
1. The Lifespan of the Paulownia Tree
The Paulownia tree has a limited lifespan and cannot live forever. Common varieties generally live between 30 and 40 years, and as time goes on, hollowing of the trunk tends to appear in the later stages, with the plant gradually withering and dying. However, some varieties live longer. For example, the giant redwood of the United States can live 3000-4000 years even in harsh environments. There are also very rare varieties that live even longer, roughly 7000-8000 years.
2. The Blooming Time of the Paulownia Tree
The Paulownia tree usually blooms between March and April each year, and the blooming period can last about one month. The flowers grow in small cymes of three to five blooms. The corolla is relatively large, pale purple or white, and shaped like a bell or a funnel. During the blooming period it has a certain ornamental value.
3. The Growth Habits of the Paulownia Tree
It is a sun-loving tree species with a high demand for light, so it should be given plenty of sunlight. It grows better in soil that has good permeability, a deep soil layer and good drainage. However, it has strong adaptability and can grow normally even in poor, acidic or alkaline soil conditions. Note that it is not tolerant of waterlogging, so drainage must be done promptly during the rainy season. Prolonged water accumulation will hinder its growth and the plant is prone to dying.
