How to care for a red bromeliad (Guzmania) in winter, and what to do if it wilts
I. How to care for a Guzmania in winter
1. Light: Winter light is warm and soft, so a Guzmania kept at home should be placed in a spot with plenty of light; more sun exposure helps the plant accumulate nutrients and bloom more.
2. Temperature: The most suitable growing temperature for a Guzmania is 15-25°C. Winter weather is cold, so the Guzmania should be brought indoors for care, keeping the care temperature above 10°C; if the temperature is on the low side, be sure to water less.
3. Watering: When a Guzmania lacks water, its leaves curl inward. Normally you can weigh the pot by hand, and when it feels noticeably lighter, water thoroughly, pouring slowly until water runs out.
4. Note: When caring for a Guzmania in winter, also note that you must not fertilize; at low temperatures, if you fertilize, the plant's roots not only cannot absorb it but are also prone to fertilizer burn. In addition, in winter, take advantage of the warmest noon temperatures to frequently open the windows for ventilation.
II. What to do if a Guzmania wilts
When a Guzmania wilts and its leaves curl, it is mostly caused by the care environment being too dry and there being no water stored in the leaf cup. The leaf cup of a Guzmania is the cup-shaped water-holding structure at the base of the leaves. Normally when watering a Guzmania, you should also pour water into the leaf cup and keep water in the leaf cup at all times, so as to prevent the plant from wilting.
