A miniature landscape looks rich, but actually uses very few materials; a few grasses, a few pieces of moss and a few stones are enough to make one, and plates, bowls, fish tanks and yoghurt bottles can all serve as containers!

What is in a miniature landscape

The plants and flowers in a miniature landscape are all fairly small, very delicate and cute; Huahua has summarised some here, which you can refer to if you want to make one

1. Essentials

Moss is the most commonly used surface-covering plant in miniature landscapes; it is not only clean and attractive but also retains moisture. Sphagnum moss can be used as the soil for landscape plants, and is more beneficial to their growth than soil

2. Grasses

Miniature landscapes emphasise varied heights; at the very back you can plant some miniature trees, such as parlour palm, dwarf umbrella tree, orange jessamine and so on; then pair them with some graceful ferns: coral fern, rabbit's-foot fern, silver ribbon fern and so on; finally add some companion grasses, mainly nerve plant and pitcher plant

3. Small ornaments

Of course, small ornaments are indispensable in a landscape pot; little figurines of all shapes add a lot of story, and many flower lovers grow them for the children at home, especially suitable for fun education for children

How to make a miniature landscape

Even though a miniature landscape contains a lot of things, it is actually simpler to make than growing flowers; try it if you do not believe it~

1. Preparation

Prepare some moss, soil, stones (size depending on the flower pot), and small grains of sand (not shown in the picture)

2. Potting in order

Depending on the size of the pot, put a layer of crushed stone at the very bottom, which can also be replaced with perlite or small clay pebbles, then add a layer of soil, and finally place a few pieces of moss on top; no need to cover it completely at first

3. Planting the plants

Plant the small plants properly, then finally cover with moss; if the container is too small you can use cotton swabs or tweezers to work, finally place the small ornaments, spray with water, and put it in a cool place to let the pot settle

4. Daily care of a miniature landscape

The plants in a miniature landscape all like shade and moisture, so be sure to note: do not expose them to strong light, keep them moist at all times; generally place them in a cool corner of the home and just spray water every day and they will be fine

A miniature landscape is actually cleaner than growing flowers; flower lovers who worry about dampness and pests can plant some pitcher plants and sundews, as they all eat mosquitoes and insects

Think growing flowers takes up space and is troublesome?

Then give a miniature landscape a try
