Rope DIY

If you don't have a hanging pot at home, all you need is a few lengths of rope to make a hanging basket! Even an elementary schooler could do it - try it and see~

Step 1:

Prepare 8 sturdy ropes (60cm-100cm long, depending on your preference), and tie a knot at the end of each rope.

Step 2:

Pair up the 8 ropes and tie them in knots 5-8 cm from knot A. There's no set knot style - just use whichever one you know how to tie.

Step 3:

This step is crucial. Number the ropes, then simply tie each pair of adjacent ropes together once more: tie 2 and 3, tie 4 and 5, tie 6 and 7, tie 8 and 1. The distance between knots should be the same as the first set of knots.

Step 4:

After the previous step, it forms a grid pattern. If your pot is on the smaller side, this is enough. If not, you can tie another round of knots.

Step 5:

Ta-da~ This is the result after tying three rounds of knots. The size is basically enough for an average pot.

Step 6:

Place the small pot inside, then tie a large knot at the tail end, and it's ready to hang.

Ropes of different materials and fabric strips all work, as long as they're sturdy enough. Not only does it save space, it also provides ventilation and shade - truly a must-have for getting succulents through the summer.

Yogurt Bottle DIY

Some gardeners have just bought succulents that are very small and mini, too small for such a large pot. Here's an idea: small yogurt bottles and soda cans work just fine for growing them.

Yogurt Bottle Step 1:

If it's plastic, you can first drill a small hole in the bottom for airflow and drainage. Glass bottles can't be drilled, so they're better suited for drought-tolerant succulents like lithops - just water less.

Yogurt Bottle Step 2:

For a small plastic yogurt cup, use scissors to poke a hole at the rim on each side, thread some string through, and it becomes a hanging basket pot.

For a glass yogurt bottle, wrap string around the neck several times, tie a knot, and it becomes a small hanging bottle.

Soda Can DIY

Quite a few gardeners already use soda cans to grow succulents. Here's another method that's both attractive and practical - let's take a look.

Step 1:

First rinse the soda can clean, apply glue to the body, and wrap yarn around it before the glue dries. Once the glue is dry, the yarn is fixed in place. Then cut out a large opening - the yarn won't come loose.

Step 2:

Fill the can with soil and you can plant succulents. If you want a hanging basket, drill holes at both ends of the can and thread a string through - just follow the same principle as the handles on the shopping paper bags we see every day~

You can even add decorations - it's eco-friendly and beautiful. I sigh that ever since I started growing plants, I can't bear to throw away any little odds and ends, because they can all be put to use.

Milk Pan DIY

The small milk pans we usually use are deep enough for growing succulents. The handle has a hole, so it can hang right on the wall~

Fruit Basket DIY

The stainless steel fruit plate Mom bought for Chinese New Year hasn't been used for years and has oxidized. Line it with the non-woven bag from a shoebox, add some soil, and you can grow succulents - hung up, it looks even grander than a flower pot!

Wire and Cable DIY

Bend three thick wires into circles, then use scrap electrical cable to spread and tie the bottom open. Line the bottom with some crushed moss, add soil, and plant succulents - isn't that just artsy?
