How to care for an Australian pine bonsai so it grows well
Soil
The Australian pine has high requirements for soil; you should choose soil with relatively good drainage, which is especially good for the roots and prevents the roots from becoming very wet and developing root rot. Then you should also choose slightly acidic sandy soil. Generally when potting it, we mix garden soil, rotted leaf soil and peat moss to prepare it, thus forming a very good medium to meet the needs of the roots and help it survive better.
Watering
During the period when spring changes to autumn, the Australian pine should be watered more often, but remember that there must not be standing water in the pot. Under conditions of high temperature and dry weather, you should also spray water on the plant in the pot and on the ground near it to lower the temperature and increase humidity. Watering must be timely; do not wait until the soil is already very dry before watering. Toward the end of autumn, gradually reduce the amount of watering to enhance its cold resistance.
Light
The Australian pine relatively prefers diffused light, so it is more suitable to place it in a brighter place inside a shed. If it is kept in shade for a long time, you should move it into the sunlight every few weeks for appropriate exposure, which can keep the leaves a deep green and maintain a good gloss.
Temperature
Its growing season is relatively long. Except when the summer temperature exceeds 32°, it can grow all year round at other temperatures.
Fertilizing
During the growing season, you should apply additional fertilizer every 2 weeks, and a compound fertilizer containing nitrogen and potassium is most suitable. If the fertilizer supply is insufficient, the leaves will turn yellow.
Pest and disease control
The Australian pine suffers little damage from pests and diseases. When we grow it indoors, we often encounter scale insects damaging it. At this time we can use an appropriate pesticide, add an appropriate amount of water, and spray regularly to kill these insects.
