How to Make a Queen of the Night Bloom During the Day? Latest Method Shared
Everyone knows that the Queen of the Night (Epiphyllum oxypetalum) is a plant that blooms at night, and a single flower stays open for only a very short time. After all, the saying "a fleeting glance of the Queen of the Night" has existed for a long time, and it has long been widely renowned. But precisely because it is so unusual, it attracts the active attention of a great many plant lovers, who even grow it as a houseplant, looking forward to the arrival of its blooming moment and ready at any time to catch a glimpse of its beauty.
But the fact that the Queen of the Night blooms at night really is not convenient for us to admire, for although its flowers are large and beautiful, their timing differs greatly from our nighttime sleep and rest. We cannot delay our night's sleep just to admire its blooming and thus affect the next day's study and work! In fact, plant lovers familiar with its growth patterns usually have a way to make it bloom during the day.
The blooming of the Queen of the Night is often quite strongly affected by light, so we can use adjusting the light time to change its blooming time, and this method is not difficult either. First, when we see the Queen of the Night develop flower buds and they begin to tilt slightly upward, promptly move the potted plant to a dark place indoors, or cover it with an opaque plastic bag.
Then let it stay in a lightless environment for about 12 hours, after which we move it out again and place it in a lighted environment. After the Queen of the Night goes through the process of alternating darkness and light, we then provide it with a well-ventilated care environment. It is best to adopt the practice of reversing day and night, and generally after alternating continuously for 4-6 days, it can bloom during the day.
More specifically, it is recommended that once its flower buds begin to tilt upward, you start shading it from 8 in the morning, for a period of about 12 hours. Then from 8 in the evening to 8 the next morning, provide it with light throughout the night. Each time you alternate between giving light and shading, open the window for ventilation for about 1 hour during that period. If you alternate continuously in this way for 4-6 days, it can successfully bloom during the day.
