A Detailed Guide to the Latest Propagation Methods for Fuchsia
Fuchsia propagation is mainly done by cuttings, and it is recommended to do it in spring each year, when the cutting survival rate is highest. For cuttings, prepare suitable soil and make sure the soil is loose, fertile and well drained, then cut off a robust growing branch for rooting. After the cuttings are done, strengthen management to ensure the branches take root.
1. Cutting time
Fuchsia propagation is mainly done by cuttings, and it is recommended to take cuttings in spring each year, because the spring climate is most suitable for plant growth and more conducive to branches taking root, greatly increasing the survival rate of cuttings.
2. Preparing the soil
For fuchsia cuttings, prepare suitable soil and make sure the soil is loose, fertile and well drained. You can use a mix of leaf mold, river sand and garden soil. After mixing the soil, disinfect it by placing it in the sun for 5 hours.
3. Cutting the branches
Next, cut from the plant a robust, pest-free and disease-free branch for rooting, about 10 cm long, with 2~3 nodes on the branch. Remove the lower leaves and keep only the top 2~3 leaves. When pruning, take disinfection measures to prevent the plant from being infected by pathogens.
4. Doing the cuttings
Finally, insert the prepared branches into the prepared soil. After the cuttings are done, strengthen management, control light and water in the environment during the early stage, place it in a semi-shaded, ventilated environment, and keep the soil slightly moist. The branches will take root in about 10 days.
