What to Do When Alocasia (Dripping Guanyin) Leaves Become Soft and Wrinkled

The leaves of the Alocasia (Dripping Guanyin) may become soft and wrinkled due to excessively low temperatures, insufficient nutrients, too little watering, and improper lighting. If the temperature stays below 10°C for a long time, the nutrients in the soil are depleted without timely replenishment, the watering frequency is too low and moisture is insufficient, or the light is severely inadequate, wrinkled and soft leaves will result.

Causes of Wrinkled and Soft Leaves in Alocasia (Dripping Guanyin)

1. Temperature too low

The Alocasia (Dripping Guanyin) is a plant suited to living in warm places, and its optimal growing environment temperature should remain stable at around 20-30°C for the plant to grow healthily and vigorously. If the ambient temperature stays below 15°C or even below 10°C for a long time, the plant will develop wrinkled and soft leaves due to cold damage and low temperatures.

2. Insufficient nutrients

The Alocasia (Dripping Guanyin) is a plant that loves fertilizer. During its peak growing season, a light fertilizer application should be given every 15 days to supply the huge nutrient consumption during its growth period. If the nutrients in the soil are depleted and we fail to apply additional fertilizer in time, the abnormal phenomenon of soft and wrinkled leaves will occur.

3. Too little watering

During the growth and development of the Alocasia (Dripping Guanyin), we need to keep its potting soil in a slightly moist state, and if the climate is too dry, we also need to spray some water mist to maintain humidity. If we water too little for a long time and keep the plant in a drought state, the leaves will become wrinkled due to lack of water.

4. Insufficient light

The Alocasia (Dripping Guanyin) likes to grow in an environment with plenty of scattered light. It needs light for photosynthesis. If we place the Alocasia (Dripping Guanyin) in a dark place for a long time, the leaves will gradually become soft and wilted. This is stunted development caused by insufficient photosynthesis.
