A Christmas cactus may droop because of improper care in aspects such as light, temperature, watering and fertilizing. During care, it needs 7-8 hours of light, with appropriate shading in summer. Keep the growing temperature between 18-25 degrees, and water by the principle of watering when dry and letting it dry out between waterings. And fertilize regularly and appropriately, mainly with phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, supplemented by nitrogen fertilizer.

Causes of a drooping Christmas cactus

1. Caused by improper light

A Christmas cactus droops because of insufficient light or exposure to strong sun, so sufficient light conditions must be maintained, keeping 7-8 hours of sunlight exposure every day. In summer, because the light is relatively strong, appropriate shading is needed, and long-term exposure to strong sun is forbidden.

2. Caused by improper temperature

A Christmas cactus droops because of temperatures that are too low or too high. Its most suitable growing temperature is between 18-25 degrees. When the winter temperature falls below 0 degrees, frost damage can occur, so heat preservation and warmth measures should be taken in time, placing it in a warm, sunny spot indoors.

3. Caused by improper watering

A Christmas cactus droops because of overwatering or drought, so watering must be done reasonably. In spring and summer, water once every 3-4 days, and in autumn and winter, water once every 7-10 days. Each watering should keep the potting soil moist, and there must be no waterlogging.

4. Caused by improper fertilizing

A Christmas cactus droops because of insufficient fertilizer or severe fertilizer burn, so during the growing season it should be fertilized regularly and appropriately, for example applying a 1000-fold potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution once every half month, and during the bud stage a phosphorus-potassium fertilizer can be applied as a top dressing. After the flowers fade, reduce fertilizing, and before winter begins, apply a small amount of base fertilizer appropriately.
