Gardeners who love growing flowers and plants in pots all hope their plants will maintain good growth and ornamental appeal, but spring has now arrived, and not only are the plants growing well, flies and mosquitoes are also more active. If potted plants attract small flying insects, it not only easily affects the plants' growth, but also makes people feel disgusted.

First we need to find the cause that attracts small flying insects, and only then can we take countermeasures to put an end to further infestation. But at the same time, we also need to take timely insect-killing measures until the goal of complete eradication is achieved, so that potted flowers and plants can be ensured to maintain good growth and ornamental appeal.

When small flying insects infest flower pots, it is usually because the potting soil is too moist, the air humidity is high, and ventilation is poor, especially after the temperature warms up, which creates a warm, damp, comfortable environment for mosquitoes and insects, so small flying insects come to infest. Whether the plants are grown in water or in soil, once they are infested by small flying insects, it is very unpleasant, not only affecting the ornamental value of the potted plants, but also possibly harming the potted plants, and more importantly, it is easy for them to bring pathogens indoors and affect health.

In response to this situation, we first need to promptly improve the current warm and damp environment. First, move the flower pots to a place near a windowsill, strengthen lighting, improve environmental ventilation, and let the excess water in the pots and in the air drain out. This can greatly reduce or suppress infestation by small flying insects. But after all, the potted plants have already been infested by mosquitoes and insects, so we also need to promptly take scientific control methods to clear away the insects that have bred. Below, the editor has listed several good methods and now shares them with everyone:

Method 1:

Cut a few smoked cigarette butts, then soak them in water. After a period of time, use the solution that soaked the cigarette butts to water the potted plants. In this way, these small flying insects can soon be driven away. Usually about 10 waste cigarette butts added to 1 bottle of mineral water is enough.

Method 2:

Light a mosquito coil, place it in the flower pot, then cover the flower pot, mosquito coil and plant together with a large plastic bag. Usually after 1 hour the mosquitoes and insects can be killed.

Method 3:

Besides the above two methods, we can also use lime or insecticide to spray and kill them. However, although spraying chemicals works better, it often affects the indoor environment, so if necessary, it is usually done outdoors.

Method 4:

You can take a small amount of laundry detergent, dissolve it in water, add a drop of clear oil, and then spray it on the insects in the potted plants. This is often a good practice too.

Method 5:

You can use Sichuan pepper added to water, heat it in a pot until it boils, then simmer it into a medicinal liquid for spraying and killing. However, this method often brings a strong pungent smell, so it is usually best done outdoors.

Method 6:

If everyone feels that the above methods have a relatively strong smell during use and easily ruin indoor air, then we can buy some sticky insect traps and place them around the flower pots. This can also trap the mosquitoes and insects flying around and, to a certain extent, play a role in killing small flying insects.

But no matter which method is used to kill small flying insects, at the same time it is necessary to improve the plants' growing environment, mainly by ensuring smooth ventilation and appropriately increasing light.
