When Is the Best Time to Repot a Clivia? A Detailed Guide to the Latest Repotting Times
1. When Is the Best Time to Repot a Clivia
Clivias are usually best repotted in spring and autumn each year, and the potting soil needs to be changed 1-2 times a year. Otherwise, because the fleshy roots of the clivia grow quickly, the nutrients in the soil can be used up within half a year. If the pot and soil are not changed regularly, it will affect the clivia's growth in the coming year.
2. How to Repot a Clivia Properly
1. Before repotting a clivia, control watering appropriately. When the soil is slightly dry, take the clivia out of the original flower pot, remove the soil attached to the roots, cut off the rotten and shriveled roots, apply carbendazim powder to the cuts, and place the clivia in a cool, ventilated place to dry the roots.
2. Prepare loose, breathable soil, which can be made from leaf mold, pine needle soil, coarse sand and charcoal. Choose a breathable flower pot of a suitable size, sized so that the clivia's roots fit inside with about 3cm between the roots and the pot wall. Place tiles and ceramic granules at the bottom of the pot.
3. Put 5-7cm of soil above the ceramic granules. The soil moisture should be such that "it forms a ball when squeezed in the hand and breaks apart when touched." Then hold the clivia's roots with your hand, turn it upside down, fill the spaces between the clivia's roots with soil, hold the plant's roots, and slowly place it into the center of the flower pot.
4. Finally, fill the gaps between the roots and the flower pot with soil, press the soil gently to firm it, then add more soil over the roots, covering the roots by 5-7cm, and press the soil gently to firm it. Move the potted plant to a cool, ventilated place, and water thoroughly when the soil is nearly dry. After one week, it can be cared for normally.
