How to plant a sprouted onion as a potted plant? A simple method anyone can learn at a glance
1. Planting conditions
After discovering that an onion has sprouted, it can still be eaten, but it can also be planted as a potted plant so it can be placed at home for viewing. When planting, the surrounding climate must be mild and suitable; it is very difficult for it to survive in an environment with very low temperatures.
2. Selecting the onion
After an onion sprouts, select one with an intact outer appearance, no damage, and no pests or diseases for planting. This kind of onion has a higher survival rate and will not develop too many problems later. If there is no sprouted onion at home, you can buy one and leave it for four or five days, and it will sprout.
3. Peeling off the outer skin
There will be some hard old skin on the outside of the onion. This outer skin needs to be peeled off first, but when peeling it, be sure not to damage the roots underneath, otherwise it will be very difficult to absorb nutrients and maintain growth. Do not remove the terminal bud at the top either; keeping it will promote the growth of green stems and leaves.
4. Taking out the young sprout
Cut the onion open from the middle, but avoid the young sprout part, and absolutely do not damage the young sprout. Take the young sprout out from it. If the outer wrapping part is not damaged, it can continue to be eaten.
5. Planting in a pot
Prepare a flowerpot. You can use a flowerpot of moderate size, and the material must be breathable, then fill it with loose, fertile soil. Dig a small hole in the soil and plant the onion in the flowerpot, with the top of the onion exposed above the soil surface. After planting, pay attention to management and ensure conditions such as light and water.
