How to grow a pineapple top in water? A detailed guide to the latest planting method
1. Handling the Pineapple Top
Prepare a clean kitchen knife, use it to cut off the pineapple top, making sure the cut is flat and even, then peel off the lowest leaves of the pineapple top until the white part is exposed, then place the peeled pineapple top in a cool, ventilated place to dry for 2-3 days.
2. Water Culturing the Pineapple Top
After the cut surface of the pineapple top has completely air-dried, prepare a watertight container, fill it with water, and rest the pineapple top on the rim of the container so that the bottom of the pineapple top just barely touches the water surface. In the early stage of water culture, change the clean water once a day to prevent the pineapple top from rotting and smelling.
3. Caring for the Pineapple Top
After about 2-3 weeks of water culture, the pineapple top will be able to grow roots, that is, the ring of small dots on the outer side of the cut surface of the plant that we observed when cutting the pineapple top. These small dots are where the pineapple top grows roots. After the pineapple top has grown roots, change the clean water once whenever the water looks cloudy.
4. Adding Nutrients in Water Culture
Because there are no nutrients in the water, flower growers who want to keep pineapple tops in long-term water culture must add nutrient solution drop by drop to the water to supplement nutrients for the pineapple top (apply after rooting).
5. Moving from Water Culture to Soil Culture
If you want the pineapple top to grow a pineapple, it is best to wait until the root system of the pineapple top has grown to 5cm, then transplant and set it out in soil. After planting, place the pot in a place with diffused light and good ventilation. After one week, gradually increase the light to full sun. Usually give it a relatively high temperature. When the soil turns white and dry, water it thoroughly once. In 1-3 years, the pineapple top will be able to bear a big pineapple!
